    Can you help me, i cannot get any type of 44mhz stereo file to play correctly on my system , wav mp3 etc, all sound distorted, if i record line in or rip from CD i have the same problem . 44mhz mono is fine and any CD's i record from these files play and sound ok.. I only have an SB 16 pnp card on win 98, i have tried everything i know ,driver updates ,all known players, wav editors etc etc, have you any ideas.

    It is either a sound card driver problem, or a hardware problem.

    If you can try a different sound card.

      Just check the settings in Windows 98 Control Panel. see what your sound card is configured for.

      Goto Control panel, MultiMedia, then Audio, and check your speaker setup and Performance tabs

      Under Performance tabs there's a sample rate slider and hardware acceleration slider, try those set to full and best quality.

      Also under recording, check the sample rate conversion quality slider.

      Not sure if that info will help, but it's worth checking.
