I am searching for a converter that will convert my iTunes (.aac) files to .mp3 files. At mp3converter.com it states that the dbpoweramp converter will do that, but it won't see files of that type on my computer. Any help here would be appreciated!

Re: aac to mp3?
You'll have to downlaod and install the mp4 codecs from Codec Central (under Popular codecs) and follow the instructions.
Keep in mind it's entirely possible your iTunes files are protected so you won't be able to convert them in that manner anyway.
There are a few very long threads on this subject already with lots of different methods.Last edited by ChristinaS; October 25, 2004, 05:30 AM. -
Re: aac to mp3?
it's all too simple within itunes: create a new account on your mac, this will give you a "blank" itunes, you then just set this for default mp3 handling instead of AAC, select the music you want to convert, ship it from one account to another through the shared folder, import it, select and convert, throw all AAC's in the garbage and there you are with 100% itunes mp3's ready to be burnt, sent or whatever you want!Comment

Re: aac to mp3?
iTunes will do it for you... at least version 4.7 will. There's a simple trick... first go to your preferences and set your import format to mp3. You have to do this because your conversion format is based on this preference.
Once you do this, you can select any songs you want from your library, right click and and select "convert to mp3". iTunes will make a copy in mp3 format while keeping the original in tact. This does not work with protected AAC files (you'll have to re-rip those). The sound quality is good. I believe it is a true conversion as opposed to a re-rip.Last edited by johnnyz; December 30, 2004, 03:43 AM.Comment
