    Gapless playback

    Hey Y'all.

I'm not sure what it is, but I seem to be having some problem getting my audio to play gaplessly. Actually there are 2 problems.

First, the actual gapless feature in the DAP seems a bit buggy. At lower settings it seems to continue to gap, and at higher settings I've noticed that it plays the track that is finishing concurrently with the new track. Not crossfading, but simply playing one on top of the other for a couple seconds. Overlapping. I've mentioned before about how important gapless playback is when listening to live recordings.

The second problem comes when playing songs off of a data cd. For some reason, the cd buffers ahead enough that it stops spinning, and then a few minutes into the music the cd has to spin up again and catch up to the playback. The result is a noticeable hiccup in the middle of the song.

Combine these two problems together, and listening to a show off cd rom can become annoying. Certainly breaks the flow of a live recording. I'm not sure what the deal is with this, as I remember being able to play shows seemlessly this way before.

What is the optimal setting for the gapless feature under Multiplayer?

Is there any way to either A, get the drive to keep reading ahead when playing media off a data cd/dvd or B, change the settings in the DAP in such a way as to facilitate truly gapless playback?

You'd think this would be a piece of cake.

There are modifications I would like to do just to this that will be 100% gapless, but for the moment measuring your sound card latency is the best you can do.

Thanx for the quick response Spoon.

I'll have to look into the sound card latency.

Actually, I realize that I jumped the gun a bit on my post. It turns out that I had been multitasking a bit heavily for a while on my system. When I closed a few of the applications, the same data disc full of live shn files played without a hiccup. It is possible the second problem in my post was caused by my RAM being filled or something along those lines. I could increase my pagefile which is actually pretty small at the moment, I suppose.
