Plays mp3, does not play mp3?!

I really want to use this instead of windows media 10 but I'm having a lot of trouble in the mp3 department. It seems that it can play mp3's except those converted at 256!! Is this just me or is this everyone?? It will play monkey and most files but not the mp3's at 256. Don't know about anything in between or higher, yet, but it does play them 128 and lower

    help!!!

What version of the Audio Player are you using?
The current beta version (relase 3, beta 5) has a newwer more robust decoder. It is available through the Beta forum.

There does not appear to be anything about this bitrate in particular that should cause a problem. What happens if you try to play one of these 256 kbs mp3 files?
If you get an error message, it would be helpful to know what error message you are getting. If the file will not open and play, what is the file tag information for one of these files (bitrate, frequency, channels, play time and file size)? This would be helpful information. It would also help to know whether these files will play, say in Windows Media Player (WMP); and whether they were created in WMP. It is possible if they were created in WMP that these files might be encrypted in which case they might not be playable outside of WMP. If this is the case, the new beta would not help as the files would not be playable until you can convert or copy them to create unencrypted files.

Please keep us posted on this issue.
    Best wishes,
    Bill Mikkelsen

Didn't want to open up a new thread on the same subject so here goes:

I have the exact same problem.

I'm using dBpowerAmp Release 3 Beta 6 on Windows XP Pro SP2.
When i try to play any mp3 encoded higher than 192 kbps, it
either refuses to play it and skip to the next song or play about
half a second and skip to the next song.

      I also installed r3b6 on a pc with win98se.
Release 2 was already installed on this pc.
When i installed i couldn't play mp3's because although the MP3.dll was in the right folder with the right name, it wasn't listed in the input codecs.

      Workaround i found:
Copying the MP3.dll from release 2.

Other than that i just love this program. I love to ability to play both random and selective from my Music Collection.

        So 224Kbps will not play?

Nope, found out that even a vbr that comes above 192 will stop at the moment it comes above 192

After some research i found out that:

            cbr 224, 256 and 320 won't play.

A vbr that switches between 192 and 224 is no problem.
A vbr that comes above 224 cuts off.

Luckily my collection is all 192 cbr.

I converted a wav file to 224,256,& 320 CBR and played all 3 with dAP r3b6
              with no problems.

Try installing the latest dBpowerAMP Music Converter R11 - it should have the same (latest) mp3 decoder.

Got it. My problem is caused by the 24 bit dsp plugin.
If i disable it, it plays fine, enable it: hello problem.

Ah well, i can live with 16 bit being delivered to the eq....

for a while at least... :D

Perhaps your sound card is not 24 bit compatible?

Re: Plays mp3, does not play mp3?!

If it wasn't i wouldn't be able to use the 24 bit plugin at all, now would I?
Or does it only start working at the bitrates i'm having a problem with?

Hmm, i'll try to create a 24 bit wavefile, i'll post the outcome when i do.
If WMP and Winamp can play it, dAP shouldn't have a problem.

I'll post the result when i have it.

I know there are problems with the 24 bit DSP and DirectX output.
