Is there anyway MMC can display the entire collection in chronological, ie date added, order?

You should be able to click the "Date Added" title section o fthe column and it will display then in chronological order.

try it a bit
it is when you for example want to sort by artist, but then by album, not song title, then you put second sort to album....
