    1280+ Resolution Skins

"I have 33 skins in my collection at this time and I would say at least a dozen work very well at 1280 resolution. Among these skins are Beyond, Craze (aka Curt) -The Studio, Curt's Golden Wonder, dBlade, Narler's Metalastic, Nature, Pedeko's Blue Car, Pioneer, Quake 3, Tasmanian Devil, Matrix Revisited, and Wodeko's Big Tower. Some other skins that work well (at least in part) at 1280 resolution are: 3D Wood (check out the Extreme Track Information screen which has a control panel to go with it), the BestRip CD skins (Alyssa and Red), Dual Pro (you can adjust the colors of the print on the display which can improve legibility), dAP HK Amp (the large display, which has a nice set of controls built in), Palmtop Zire, Pedeko's Pioneer, Stereo GaGa (the large and "huge" displays), and XMPlay."

I was doing some research in response to Yuki's challenge and this was roughly how I felt about what skins work at 1280 resolution (my display won't go bigger than that and I usuualy work at 1024 by 768 resolution). I was struck by the fact that for a screen to work at a larger resolution does not seem to be primarily a function of size. Clarity of the layout and especially of the display seems to be crucial. There were many skins that were plenty large enough but whose displays were not all that legible at higher resolutions. I found a few surprises. I won't finger any skins that did not perform as well as I thought they would but I was surprised by dBlade, XMPlay and Palmtop Zire (all of them fairly small skins even at smaller resolutions) held up very well at 1280 resolution. I had also expected that the track information display on Quake 3 would not work out at higher resolution but it did very well in that respect.

    So, my questions to you:
    1. What skins do you recommend (or not recommend) for 1280 or above resolution (are there choices on my list you would not recommend, are there skins you would recommend that aren't on my list, etc)?
    2. What qualities help a skin work at higher resolutions?
    3. Those of you using higher resolution displays, what skins do you enjoy and why?

I appreciate any input that any of you would like to share.
    Best wishes,
    Bill Mikkelsen

    Re: 1280+ Resolution Skins

I work in 1152 res. and i had no problem with any of the skins, and that is one of the reasons why my two skins do not fit on 640 res. I would recomend Quake 3 and Stereo Ga Ga for their fullscreen displays.
Right now I am making another skin that wont have the problems that Quake 3 has and the mainamp itself will be large enough for 1600 res. but if someone needs a 1280 res or a 1600 res. fullscreen info-vis I shall be glad to put those in to the skin as well(although then the install file will be huge). And I have found even more things to change than in Quake 3(thanx to my brother) and so THIS will be the most changed skin of its time.
Ithink that larger fonts for infos and buttons would help a skin work in high res., or maybe clear no-blured or contrasted buttons and infos.
