dAP and RealAudio files, & the Crossfade function.plays

What is the audio quality like with the dAP plugin? About like that with RealPlayer (I'm using Basic Version 8 (win32); Build: 6.0.9.584), or MUCH better?

Crossfader says it takes out the gap between tunes, can this function be disabled by a user if he or she wants to?

System: Windows 98SE; 1 GHz. Athlon Thunderbird Processor, 256 Mb RAM, 32 Mb. Sound Card, 32 Mb Video. DirectX 6.1a

About 70% of what I listen to on the net is RealAudio (ram, rm) files. Out of curiosity, does dAP convert these to .Wav files?

dAP is an Audio player and as long as you have installed the real audio codecs it will be able to play real audio format files.

dMC is the Music converter which can be used to convert real audio files to other formats (i.e. MP3, OGG, WAV etc.)

I'm sure that the crossfade feature can be turned off. Check out dAP's pop up menu it's on the same page as the gap-less option.

dMC can convert real files to wav (not too fast though) or any other format you have installed for it... The playback of these files isn't perfect though...
gaples can be easily turned off in the right-click menu->multiplayer->gaples
I think it is off by default...

Thanks for the Info re Gapless, RealPlayer & dAP.

Another quetion: When you download a Plugin, does the file download itself into the dAP folder, or do you have to download the plugin into a temporary folder, move the file to wherever its supposed to go, then click on it to make it set up or what?

The files you download are installation packages which when run will install the actual plugins, so it is best to download them to a temporary location first. I prefer to keep them in the event I have to do a backout/reinstall.

            PROBLEM:

On updates page needed for Windows 88, it says one is DCOM. The only references I can find with the "Find" command are

DCOMconfg.chm ... Compiled HTML Help File
            DCOMcfg.hlp .... Help File

Both are dated April 23, 1999

            ============
The only references I can find to "Common Control" are:

2 associated with ViaVoice Speech reconition program.
            1 associated wirh RealPlayer

Came across 2 more "Common" folders but niether had any sort of refence to the Microsoft "Common" file (500K) file mentioned.

            I'm using Windows 98SE (Version 4.10.2222A)
            ------------------
So, what do I do now --- download both updates or will dAP run alright anyway???? I've had the present version of RealPlayer 8 Basic (Freeware) on the computer about a year and a half...

I'm NOT using the Jukebox addon for RealPlayer (Vers. 8; Basic), just using the basic player.
I haven't downloaded dAP yet because I wasn't sure about those updates being needed or not....

If you can play real files in Real player (and maybe even if you can't) dAP should play them also (although better just use it for conversion) .... download and check I guess If you just want to convert than donwload just dMC... then the real codec from the codecs central....

Ahhhhhh..... Let me see if I'm reading this right then: dAP with the correct plugin should work ok playing RealAudio files since the the installed RealAudio player work's ok, & I wouldn't have to worry about the upgrades to Windows mentioned on the plugin's page....?

dAP doesn't convert .ra or .ram files to wave with the plug in as they're playing I gather, so I'd need the seperate music converter program to convert streaming .ra & .ram to .WAV...

well dMC (music converter) can convert real files on your pc to wave (or whatever codec you have installed)... can't work with streaming media directly, but if saved I think it can...

and you are right about the installs... dAP partially uses real player files, so it is needed on the PC...

Hmmm -- Then, since stuff I listen to is streaming that doesn't save to disk, I can only listen with dAP, and the seperate Music converter program will not be useable then?????? I'm confused.

At this point, here's where I am:

1 ... Don't know if dAP will work with streaming audio files non-saveable to HD

2 ... Don't know if I do or don't need the Updates because can't find them on computer.

3 ... Alright is this how it would work then: dAP to play files including streaming non-saveable to disc .ra & other types, & CD's, and Music Converter to change streaming .ra files to waves or MP3's ???
