    Another tagging problem

Nothing major, but this is frustrating.
I have some files, mostly mp3, that are missing some info such as genre. I use mp3Tag to tag my files with ID3v1 and have no problem doing it. However when I then try to refresh the MC info from the tag, the genre info is not read. It does not matter what I put in this field, it will not appear in MC. Other fields are updated - but not the genre field. A right click, "Edit tag" shows that the info is there, but it will not appear in the genre column.
I also have some Monkey's Audio files (with ape tags) with exactly the same problem. The genre field is filled in, but MC will not read it. I know I can add it by editing the tag in MC, but I prefer to use mp3Tag for tagging.
I have DMC release 10 installed along with the latest codecs.
Any ideas or am I just being missing something really obvious (it wouldn't be the first time!).
A second question. When MC reads tag info for a file with both ID3V1 and apev2 tags, does it read in a certain order - ID3 first or apev2 first? If I have files tagged with both, MC only seems to read the ID3 info.

    Re: Another tagging problem

I seem to have resolved this tagging problem - or at least found a work around. If I change the tag on a file in mp3Tag, then I have to remove the file from MC before reimporting it. This may well be what is supposed to be done, but I have not seen that written anywhere.
I still have a question about the use of APEv2 and ID3v1 tags on the same file. It seems to make sense to do this, since more info can be included in the APE tag, but the ID3 tag is still needed for certain uses. When I have both tags present, dAP reads only the ID3 info. Is this a designed feature of the program; if so, is it possible to change this so that the full titles of tracks are displayed, and not the truncated titles from the ID3 tag?
I am still extremely impressed with dbPowerAmp and its features, but would like to know about this tag behaviour.

      Re: Another tagging problem

Sorry I missed your first message, yes the MMC database is seperate from the tags - if you want to update it from the file (to MMC), select all the files in MMC >> right click >> Advanced and something like read tags from file.

APE tag is at the back, and id3 is at the back of a file, so there can be only one, either id3 or APE.

        Re: Another tagging problem

If I understand things correctly, you are saying that a file cannot have both an ID3v1 tag and an apev2 tag at the same time. The program I use to tag (mp3Tag) allows me to write either or both tags to a file, then to read either from a file. When I do this, a file tagged with both appears to have both tags - I can read different info from each tag.
All of this suggests that a file can have both tags. The problem that I see is that obviously only one tag can be read at a time, and perhaps I misunderstood what you wrote. In MMC, I can show either the ID3v1 info or the apev2 info. What I have done that seems to work is to first tag files with apev2 tags, then read that info into MMC. Then I go back and add ID3v1 tags, but still keep the ape tags. I do not refresh the file info from the tags in MMC, so the ape info shows in MMC and in Audio Player. This gives me the best of both worlds - the longer titles etc. that show in apev2, as well as compatibility with software/hardware that requires ID3 v1 tags
I tried reading some of the threads at the Hydrogen Audio site about "double tagging", but there are differing views on doing that. So far, what I suggested above seems to work.
        Any comments?

Funnily enough I will be creating an APEv3 standard with just that - an APE tag followed by ID3v1 for compatibility.
