    Tagging ape files

I have just started experimenting with Monkey's Audio ape files, and I am having a problem with tags and dbPowerAMP Audio Player. If I use only ape tags, dAP cannot read the information correctly. Artist, album, title info is not shown in Music Collection. So far, the only solution is to tag with both ape and id3v1. Is this how it is supposed to be? Is it OK to have both tags present? Or am I missing something really simple?
I have installed the necessary codec so dAP can play the ape files. It just can't seem to read the ape tags.
Any help or info would be appreciated.

What is creating the APE files? ifthey are apev2 tags you need the APE codec from the Beta section of this forum.

Thanks for the reply Spoon. The files were created with Exact Audio Copy, using MAC.exe, version 3.97. I added the APE v2 tags with mp3Tag (v.2.15). dAP would not read the file info correctly, but when I did as you suggested and d/ld the latest codec, everything seems to be fine.
I had installed the codec to play APE files, but obviously I missed the fact that I need another codec to enable dAP to read APE v2 files correctly. Thanks for helping out.
I am more impressed with your program every day. I would like to see Music Collection set up to allow some type of tree structure, but that is a minor complaint. Overall, a great program.

It is just a newer version - the old Monkeys used APEv1 tags.

          Re: Tagging ape files

I have another question about dAP and ape tags. I am using v2 tags and dAP reads artist, album, track #, and title info correctly. It incorrectly reports that the bit rate for all ape files is 1378, while they actually are in the 700-970 kbps range,as shown by Mp3tag.
The tag editor in dAP correctly shows the compression of one song at 69%, which translates into a bit rate of 974 (69% of 1411); this is exactly the bit rate shown in Mp3tag.
It's not a major issue, more of a "wrinkle", but it would be nice to know what is causing this. Any ideas???

            Re: Tagging ape files

The bitrate shown for lossless codecs is the uncompressed bitrate - ie CD Quality. I took this decision as bitrate = quality, ie a 32kbps mp3 is worse than a 128Kbps file. But an higher compressed Monkeys file means nothing for quality.

That makes sense; I didn't think about it that way, especially since the actual bit rate was shown in the tag. However, it isn't a problem and does not detract from the program in any way. I'm sure I will have more questions as I continue to use the program.
              Thanks for your replies.
