What program..or programs do I need to download to be able to download Lp's and cassettes from my record player to the computer?

the first thing you will need is dmc, you can grab the latest beta here: dmc RC 1.1
then go here for Auxiliary Input and download it: http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc.htm
then fire up auxiliary input to do the recordings. and just pop back here if you need more help on this. -

Assuming you have hooked up from your record player to your computer and that it is connected to the Line Input of your computer's sound card-right click on your sound card's tray control, open the control panel and activate your Line Input.

what is your opersating system? i run win98se. also what is your sound card?
you have double checked your cables from the cassette player to your sound card is in the correct plug in?
this is usually where the problem is. but we will figure it out in the end. as it's just trying to make sure there is a signal coming through.Comment
