cd player display winks

When playing a CD the bars in the spectrums (or scope) momentarily stop. Regardless of which player (canned or my own) is used the timing of the winks do not seem to be regular and this does not happen when playing mp3s.
I have a PC w/ 512ram, 2.66ghx processor, 60gb drive and win xp home so I do not think resources is an issue.

Any of the skins that have the spectrum bars or scope have the winking occuring.

I think I have seen this before, it is down to either 2 things: the reading of the CD Audio in bursts has a higher system priority than the drawing of the scope, or it gets the timing of the scope wrong and it will update all the look ahead positions in about 2 seconds (draw lots really quick) then do nothing for 3 seonds. Which one do you think you are seeing?

The winks are very short. very short, maybe 1/5 second.
The CD light blinks 3 times then about 3 seconds go by before another 3 blinks. Just before the first of the 3 blinks is when the scope winks. That's about all I notice. The music plays just fine. As far as process priorities go, I don't know what has priority.
The bars may move faster, but that may be because you have suggested it!

So it winks and is ok (works normally) for 3 seconds?

it displays okay for as long as the cd player is Not accessed. When the cd player light starts flashing I know the wink-out is coming and as soon as the light flashes it's last report... the player winks. It does not look like the player's display is playing catch-up from when it winked-out. so... plays fine for 5 to 7 seconds, during the last 3 seconds (of those 5 to 7) the cd is read and then the wink and so on.

I also get this problem but with me the sound stops momentarily as well.
Again, MP3's are OK
I am running XP Pro, Athlon 1400XP, 512Mb memory, Acer 52* Cdrom.
It doesn't happen if I play a CD on the Acer rewriter which is a 24/8/40.

Not sure what you mean.

The cd starts to play but it will then slow down and the sound stops, it then speeds up again and the sound starts etc etc.
Media player plays ok.

It is the stopping that is a problem, I think Nero Drive Speed can set it so it will keep spinning.
