    Clippin' and Skippin'

I've had a consistent problem with clipping and skippiing when I play CD's through dBpowerAMP. It's a darn shame because the music sounds better through this player. I resort to playing my CD's through Window Media Player as it doesn't skip. I have a speedy machine with plenty of memory. I searched the forum and have not found anyone with similar problems.

    Specifics:

    2.4 Ghz Intel Pentium IV
    512 Mb Ram
    40 Gig HDD
    Onboard sound
    Windows XP
Sound is managed through DirectX in dBpowerAMP ( I changed this to the current setting as I thought it may help).

I don't think it is related to dbPowerAmp itself.

Does it skips with MP3/WMA/OGG/APE/etc... too? or only with CDs?

What is the brand of your motherboard? Have you tried upgrading to the latest drivers for your onboard sound?

I have this problem with clipping when I run Seti@Home while playing music, and it's a problem with creative's drivers. Though Creative being the crap shots they are with drivers, they are not releasing any update to older soundcard. Even the Audigy has no more support, only Audigy2. Damn you Creative!

Anyways, try updating your drivers, it could fix the problem. And maybe the problem stems from one of multiple shared processing applications out there (Seti@Home, UD Agent, Distributed.net, the folding one (can't remember it's name) and so on)
