That skin looks sweet :D
To the original creator of this wonderful work of art Imre Benedek - Nucleo_NLog. The skin has been copied for the purpose of giving the users of dBpowerAMP a great skin for a great player. It has been screenshot, altered and reanimated in the Skin Designer of dBpowerAMP.
As I stated in a post quite a while back it's one way of producing a large number of good DAP skins by borrowing ideas from those deisgned for WinAmp. Not entirely ethical, but...

I first encountered this as a WinAmp skin It is a beautiful skin. My personal feeling about the ethics of copying a skin that was iriginally developed by an independent skin designer for a different program as long as the original designer is credited and as long as that designer has no objection. This also assumes that the designer has not assigned rights to his creation to a third party (such as WinAmp), that the distribution of the original skin by the designer and/or by WinAmp is done free of charge and that the copy is similarly distributed free of charge. I do think that this is much more honest than ripping off someone else's ideas without directly trying to copy them and without giving credit to the original designer.
best wishes,

Well I red your post on making a lot of Win Amp skins and thought "YEAH! Great idea!" and NOW you tell me...
I don't consider this a borrowed idea... it's plainly a copy (that I have altered slightly, partly because of program differences but also some just for fun).
I have tried to maintain the original feel as much as possible, because I think it is such a wonderful creation BY IMRE BENEDEK! I had hoped that no one would consider it a skin pinching, but rather a tribute to a wonderful skin creation. My instructions to have Author: say Imre Benedek/animated by BestRip has not come through.
Anyone having ethical issues about it... please stop using it
I'm not trying to take credit for the original idea or the composition or the aesthetics of the beauty of it... nothing really but having made a darned good copy... and having been able to recreate all the skin parts that are not the Main amp, EQ or the On Screen control. All other parts are made not from image copies but have been reconstructed with my own styles to resemble the original skin as closely as I deemed necessary to pay due respect to the original art creation.
I have processed a lot of thought about publishing it before I decided to go ahead... and then mainly because I love Imre Benedeks creation so much myself... but I might live to regret it, who knows... a longish argumentation about the ethics of it will definitly make me regret it...Last edited by BestRip; July 17, 2003, 05:18 AM.Comment

Don't get me wrong I believe that as long as credit is given to the original author then it should be fine to create a skin for DAP using his skin as a basis. As you said it is for a different program and therefore has to be edited to fit in with that programs operation. I was just saying that some people may not agree with us on this matter!
You did a wonderful job with that skin, keep up the good work :D

yes giving credit is fine. however it is just an extra precaution to always get an email off the author stating that it has his/her blessing so to speak.
i gave some code to yabbse developers once, but they wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole until i gave an email that explained the exact terms and conditions on how they could use it.
i got burnt once before over such issues (not skins) and this was even after the people being aware of what i was doing.
what i am saying is should any abuse/complaints start coming from people but you have the the original author that backs you up it makes life a lot easierComment

BestRip has done a great job with the skin and has stated from the start that it was not originally designed by him he just modified it for use with DAP.
Keep up the good work :D
Thanks

Thank you Paddy,
The parts I have made I'm actually quite happy with, happy it turned out as well as it did... it would not have made this wonderful skin justice otherwise. It was inspiring to work with. (A small note: The first 10 or 12 downloads that were made, actually was an incomplete version... You can see it on the MMC play control buttons... I've changed them now to match the skin further).
Have thought of e-mailing but somehow that has not happened... I have e-mailed Sven Kistner asking if he'd mind me doing the MMD3 skin or a similar creation, (that I showed him the graphics of...) 2 times by mail, with no response at all, so I guess I considered that they have other things to do . Of course this may not be the case with Nucleo... but with some 6 million downloads... I think there must have been some e-mails too and frankly I think they (the top skin creators) may have become somewhat unconcerned about it all even if attention in admiration always remains the beloved particles they are
I do agree there is an ethical aspect to this whole subject... and it is not discarded here, but if Nucleo would see this skin I hope it would cause him an intense feeling of flattery and I might still drop him that mail
(Had some cut and paste problems here - if you saw something strange...)Last edited by BestRip; July 17, 2003, 12:35 PM.Comment

How would I know if I have the incomplete version or the updated version?

nice review xaos
one part I disagree with is the EQ being a little confusing. but i do keep in mind that anyone new to using EQ's would find it a little difficult. but for veteran EQ people like myself it is indeed very nicely done. it can be a little tricky getting precise results in the EQ, but for the most part now I use "the studio" to fine tune EQ then save my settings using Spoons new EQ features.Comment
