    My complete collection is screwed..Help

I was doing a routine ‘Add Music’ option in My Collection and thought “that’s strange, it’s taking forever” only to then notice that every track had been duplicated!

Oh! My God what can I do…I know I will scrap my collection and make it search for my music under a new collection….brilliant, except I forgot I had the ‘New Track Preference’ set to place all new tracks by the default setting..so now it has completely restructured my music folders by [artist]\[artist] - [track]

These means that all my albums by various artist now have there own folder and are not grouped as an album!!!

What can I do …. Some might say use your back up …. How do I back up over 15 gig (3,000 tracks)

    Can anyone please help

hmmmm..... all is not lost. don't panick :D

would "arrange file" help in this case?

    MMC collection-->music collection--->arrange files

just do a small test first to see if it does what you want it to do.

No I checked that out, but I don't think it will work. The problem is now that say for instance my cd 'It's a long way to the Top' is a double CD with about fifty different artists. Before it would have been listed under 'Various Artists'\Long Way To The Top\01 Song Title ... now I have 50 folders all with each individual tracks.

And that’s just one of many.

I now have another problem which I am not sure whether or not to post here or do a fresh post (this is my first time doing any of this)

I am now trying to create a new search to attempt to sort it out and I get this error ...

dBpowerAMP – Music Collection ‘Brian’: Editor.exe – Application Error

The instruction at “0x0041dd00” referenced memory at “0x00000280” The memory could not be ‘read’

and my whole system crashes and I have to reset.

any ideas? do I post it seperately?

well i must say i need to do some serious testing on this "arrange files", as i am getting some mixed results.

i just shifted 5 GIG of music using arrange files option. this first shift was fine. the second shift left some files behind. the third shift only moved my wav files. the fourth shift didn't even create album folders and left files behind also.

hmmmm..... Spoon might have to investigate this one.

Spoon will also see your post about the "search" error. i'm not sure whats going on there.

Many thanks for listening and I will wait for any results,

I am now in the process of sorting out what goes where and will I think have to put it down to experience.

I will however look forward to hearing any results to my search problem now as I cetainly intend to continue to use dbpower as I love it

          Thanks again

well i am making some headway. i now have 3.5gig and album names out of my 5GIG collection. i think MMC is a lttle smarter than me

to get the album name sorted i didn't realize i need the tag

[album]\[album] i just had [album] on it's own.

so i think with more experimenting i will get it sorted.

no worries chippy, as we live in the same country it is late and i will take another look at MMC tomorrow, but i'm positive with the right tags in "arrange files" will get things sorted in the end.

You could of course use another program for the sorting/arranging feature...
I use MP3BookHelper (http://mp3bookhelper.sourceforge.net/) aside dBpoweramp for tagging files and arranging. It works very fast, easy and very flexible.

If Various Artists are nowhere in the tag then yes it cannot put them were you desire, although you might save your music collection as 'testing.mmc' then sort by album, then quickly remove any non various albums, then do a sort on what is remaining into Various Artists.

About the crashing, try the latest beta version.

for some reason I can't get "all" my music files moved using "arrange files".

it also only moves part of my various album over.

just to look at one thing at a time.

                      i have an album:

                      album name: 2001 Volume 1

                      artist: top of the pops

i tried this in the "arrange files" tag : [album]\[album]-[artist]

i have 18 tracks left in a folder called "musictest"
and it moved 2 tracks to "musictes3"

the source was "musictest" the destination was "musictest3"

the source folder had "Top Of The Pops" as the main folder with the tracks inside of that.

the destination did produce the folder called "2001 Volume 1" with only 2 tracks inside that folder.

so it looks like it did what it was supposed to do except it lefts files behind.

                        in another album:

album name: The Greatest Hits (CD 2) - Throw Down
                        artist: Whitney Houston

it moved only 2 files over.

source: musictest , folder "Whitney Houston" with all tracks inside.

destination: folder "The Greatest Hits (CD 2) - Throw Down" with only 2 tracks inside, and left the rest behind.

ok i have mad some progress by using

                          [artist]\[album]\[artist] - [track]

this has indeed moved my entire collection over, except for some wav files (that's another story).

it also soughted my various album "top of the pops" correctly.

it made a folder "top of the pops" then another subfolder "2001 Volume 1" with all 20 tracks inside. :D

Spoon, if there was one improvement to "MMC--file arrangement" could be made it would be to add an extra ability for "arrange files"

because it is difficult to arrange specific "various albums" to a structure for that album only but still keep it in the same structure/folder for the rest of the collection i would suggest the following.

                            MMC-->highlite files-->right click-->advanced-->arrange music files

this would only arrange the highlited files.

this then would cater better for various albums.

the reason being it is almost impossible to arrange the music collection the way you want when "various artists" type albums are part of the collection. as "arrange files" is global over the entire collection.

just some thoughts there that might solve the problem.

using it like this i would then have the same source and destination to sought "various artists" seperately, then go and delete the empty folders after.

after reading what SpTigerJD1 said in another thread I realize the "right click" option is already there if you download the seperate "arrange music" file here: http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc-power-pack.htm

i will see if i can sought my "various artists" album in the same folder now.
