flac will not play

I installed audio player into a separate folder other than music converter and installed several different versions of flac, none of which play on dbpoweramp 2.0. In "File Associations" there is no FLAC listed. I had audio player installed before and I think FLAC was listed - and I think I had MC and audio player installed in the same folder. Suggestions?

I installed flac found on the codec page and an older flac version which I got from the codec page, neither of which worked.

dAP uses the Legacy Flac codec which is found on hte Legacy codec page - a limk to which can be found by selecting the Codec Central menu at the top of this page. The Legacy Codec Central page is found here:

The Legacy codecs are completely incompatible with the newer codecs located at the Codec Central page. Adding the Legacy codec will not, in fact be sufficient. You need to uninstall the first FLAC codec you installed. You can see if that alone will work but it is likely that you will need to uninstall the new FLAC codec, the Legacy FLAC codec, and any other of the new codecs you may have installed (and their Legacy counterparts) and re-boot before adding the Legacy codecs only to the folder you have dAP in.

If this sounds tedious, it is also possible that dAP itself could have been corrupted and it may well be quicker and more effective to completely uninstall dAP and all of the codecs located in the dAP folder, re-boot and re-install dAP and the Legacy codecs only that you want to use with dAP. Because I cannot guarantee that anything short of this will be effective (I had this problem once or twice myself but it was some time ago, so I am not sure whether removing the codecs alone was sufficient).

So if using DMC12.5 or above DB audio player should be in a separate folder? Got it working but every time I installed FLAC Legacy to audio player folder I got error message "Error whilst opening MusicConverter.exe" (or maybe DBConfig.exe). All codecs have to be installed in both DMC and audio player folders? Used to be they could all be put into one directory. Thanks, love this player.

Yes (pertly). dAP, dbpowerampCDWriter r1 or r2, Sveta, and any version of dMC r11.5 or earlier must be in a folder (along with the Legacy codecs that these programs use) that is separate from dMC r12.0 or later, dB CDWriter r3, dB renaissance, and other dB programs and the codecs from Codec Central.

This is because dMC r 12.0 and the current codecs are completely different programs from the earlier versions. This is why they are incompatible and also why having the wrong codec in the wrong folder will not only prevent the codec from working but may well prevent the program from working altogether.

On the other hand, dAP only needs to have the Legacy codec installed in the same folder as dAP. You do not need to have the FLAC codec (Legacy or current version) in the same folder as dMC r 12.0 or later for FLAC to work with dAP. If dAP is not working with the FLAC Legacy codec it is likely due to corruption from having the wrong FLAC codec installed in the dAP folder. What steps have you followed to address this (I ask only because my previous advice offered a few alternatives and I need to know what you have done so as to advise you on how best to proceed).
