    iTunes for Audio Server?

I hope I'm not overstepping the boundaries of this forum, but for Mac people, are there any disadvantages to using iTunes to control a music library on a music server? I'm talking from the most discriminating, hi-fi, golden-eared, music person's standpoint.

    From a sound quality perspective?

From a sound quality perspective as well as from any other perspective. I realize the benefits, such as; being a compatibility no-brainer on a Mac & for an iPod. But are there any reasons someone looking for the best of the best might consider an alternative?

I'm using Squeezebox devices in the house. I love these devices. My server is running ClearOS and Squeezebox Server is running as services. Itunes is alright as media player. If you want to spent more money buy a Sonos system.
