my .ape files won't play in dap

    Hi

When I first encountered dBPowerAmp I ripped all my CD's to Monkeys Audio. At that time I had a win2000 system and all was working ok in dAP. After a few years I had also converted the .ape to .mp3 and used that mostly so when installing a Vista system and the .ape files would not play any longer I didn't think much of it.
Now I would like to use the lossless files again but I can't get any of my .ape files to play in dAP. How can I get them to work with dAP?

IF not possible, what other lossless format should I use to be able to play them in dAP? (Still my fauvorite music player... of course )

Good to hear from you BestRip!

Do you have any other dbpoweramp software installed?
I ask because (as you may already know) versions of dbpoweramp Music Converter (dMC) starting with version 12 on are built upon an entirely different programming platform than dAP.

This means that dAP has to be installed to a different folder than dMC 12+ and it means that the codecs used for dAP have to be the Legacy codecs (found at Legacy Codec Central here: http://www.dbpoweramp.com/legacy/cod...ral-legacy.htm ) NOT the newer codecs found in the regular Codec Central. If you have dAP installed in the same folder as a newer version of dMC you need to uninstall dAP and reinstall it to a different folder. Then you need to install whatever Legacy codecs you need including the Legacy Monkeys Audio codec from Legacy Codec Central. If dAP is already installed to a different location (or if it is still installed in a folder with dMC version 11.5 or older, Sveta, and/or CD Writer r1 or r2) then make sure that your Monkeys codec is Release 7 (the Legacy Codec) and not a later version. If it is a newer version, uninstall your Monkey's Audio codec and reinstall te Legacy codec.

While you are at this, you should make sure that any other codecs that you have installed with dAP are also Legaacy versions and any that are not also need to be uninstalled and replaced with Legacy codec versions.

Spoon does have a newer player in early alpha/beta testing that is compatible with the new programming platform. This is the Renaissance player. Unfortunately, it lacks a GUI and so curently it runs on a command-line interface only. I know Donnie had expressed some interest in trrying to generate a GUI but I am not sure whether he has had the time or resources to get very far with it or not.

Anyway, if these tips don't help with your dAP problem, please post back and we'll see what else we can do.

    Best wishes,
    Bill
