I can't get the player to play.

I've got a new computer, 64 bit Vista, and I can't get the 3(6) player to play flac files, which is all I have. I've downloaded the flac codec, but I'm not 100% convinced I have the right one. I have used dbpoweramp for years, so I'm not a complete newbie, but vista has me so stumped I can't even get windows media player to work, which I really don't want to do anyway, but I'm desperate because I have NO MUSIC.

I'm not all that technical though, could some one perhaps please walk me through how to get it set up to play?

Make sure you are using the Legacy FLAC codec from Legacy Codec Central, NOT the one from the main Codec Central.

I wondered about that. It's confusing, but yes, I did install the one from the main codec central, hopefully that's the only problem, thanx muchly

Do I have to uninstall the wrong one, or can I leave it? Thanx

Re: I can't get the player to play.

I installed the flac codec from legacy central, and it asked for permission to delete the one previously installed, but it is still no go.

Now though it does show the name of the track I am trying to play, but it still won't play. I don't really understand this 64 bit stuff, but I'm wondering if the problem might be that I am doing the standard installation and it says x86, which I really don't understand either, but I do know it is different.

So perhaps the problem is in the standard installation?

          Any assistance greatly appreciated.

It has occurred to me that perhaps I should have emphasized that I started over afresh here. I connected to the website, put in my former email address, and got some new downloads. These downloads did have numbers attached to them, but I am an historian, numerically changed, and cannot remember numbers unless they are in a standard date format.

I've got it working now. Part of the problem was the codec issue idetified by Lt Data, and I thank you for that, but the other part, which I figured out when I tried to play a DVD was that vista requires a special driver to run my headphones, so it's a learning situation, and thanks for helping me figure out the codec thing.

It's been working for me for a week, but there is one feature that I really miss from the way I had it set up before. I used to be able to right click on a file icon and cue up songs to play, but now that option does not come up.

                  Any suggestions? Thanks

Start --> All Programs --> dBpoweramp Audio Player --> Configuration
One of the options there (don't have the player installed currently) is in regards to the right-click options for dAP showing up.

Thanks very much, but I still can't get that to work. The problem, or at least part of it, seems to be that I have flac files associated with Amp, because when I associate them with dbpowerAMP Audio Player they won't play.

I'm going to try reinstalling it.

Still no go, but now I have the filles associated with dbpowerAMP Audio Player and they play, so maybe I'm getting closer.

Well now I have play in dAP in the right click menu, but not enqueue.

I do have the install dbpowerAMP Menu Options on Folders box checked, but I suspect it's not working because I also have Explorer double click set to Enqueue, and that definitely is not working, but now they both do stay the way I put them when I close and reopen File Associations, I guess because I clued into the open as administrator thing, but staying the way I put them and working like that are obviously 2 different things.

I'm about ready to give up for the evening, but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
                          Thanks

Well, foobar lets me enqueue songs, first try, no messing around, no need to ask questions.

Makes me think of that much covered Hank Williams song where he says, "Move over old dog, there's a brand new dog movin' in."

And the funny part is that I just right-clicked on a folder on my flash drive full of word documents I don't need any more so I could delete the whole folder, and the poweramp player options come up on the menu, but they still don't come up for music files.

That's funny, because foobar is working great.
