I got this recommended to me from a guy at THG. So I read the reviews, and downloaded the collection, including recommended codecs, yes, even the ape codec. It really intrigued me. everything but cd burning sware. I hope to still be able to use easy cd 4.05 & direct cd 3.05 by roxio. I wanted to be able to save my stuff in the ape format, so I ripped it like that. Now I can't get the player to load the ape files into a playlist. When I browse with the add feature, I can get to the converted music folder, but when I click to open it, nothing shows. OK,,,, so I go to windows explorer, find the converted music folder, and it will open, but not to a playable tune, instead, a page of text describing tech stuff. How do I use the ape files? If they are not playable, how does the high quality retained by the lower compression do me any good?
ape files wont import to playlist

When you locate the folder containing the .ape files does Explorer identify the files as being "dBpowerAMP Monkeys Audio File"? If not, are you sure that you have installed both dAP and the Monkey Audio codec properly?
Have you installed dMC as well? By looking at the dMC Configuration options you can check that the Monkey Audio codec is listed.
Seeing as the Monkey Audio format is Spoon's favourite I would not expect there to be any problems at all. I haven't experienced any. -

Can you explain this a bit more?Comment

Be glad to try and be more specific. Here's what the file looks like in explorer. well, I thought it would paste, but it won't. after finding and opening up converted music with explorer , tracks are displayed on the right. Each track is preceded by the MS flag, the extension icon. place the pointer over any track and the (tech stuff) I referred to is displayed. It is as follows, a beige pop up displays the following;
File: Wait for me-Rebecca St. James
Location:E:\converted music
Type: ape.file
Length: (m:ss) 4:40
Size:35503
Original size: 48287 kb
Compression Ratio: 1.3 to 1 (73%)

Bits per sample:16
Channel:2
Frames:12361524

Track:8
When I go to poweramp config, file associations; ape. never shows up. but it shows as a ripping option in dmc. I deleted ape codecs from control panel, rebooted, reinstalled from codec central, rebooted, still have the problem. another interesting note, when I look at view in explorer, folder options, file types, ape. is not listed. When I dl'ed yesterday, I did not reboot after each install. Maybe I should have. I don't mind uninstalling everything, rebooting and reinstalling everything again. I really believe that this is the audio program I've been looking for, I wiped wmp 7.1 and 9.0 off my pc last night. Suggestions???? An afterthought, I do run Nortons full time. Maybe I should disable it before I try a reinstall from your website.Comment

I think I know what is happening, I am guessing that dMC and dAP are installed to different locations - if this is the case the codecs need to be installed to both locations as well.Comment

Just too cool, Spoon. Well done!!
I uninstalled everything, including power pack, and started over. I updated directx to ver 9, then I found amp release 2 beta 7, dl'ed, installed, rebooted, then went back to system update page, installed new dcom,(I thought I had, maybe I spaced that one), dl'ed and installed dmc ver 9, rebooted, installed the codecs I want, rebooted, installed dmc file selector, rebooted, installed aux input, rebooted. Now you're probably thinking, why all the reboots? Since I'm not a program writer, I don't know which ones need a reboot and which ones don't, so I just reboot after every new install of anything. This package you've created is exactly what I've been looking for. It does everything you said it would, and is a lot of fun to work with. I just ripped an old favorite cassette to ape in real time, no wave conversion, and am playing it now. Excellent!! I use a voyetra turtle beach santa cruz sound card, which I believe is a formidable rival to Blaster Audigy, a set of Labtech speakers, which will soon give way to my old analog pioneer amp and 2 mitsubishi floor speakers. I just paid for the power pack, it should be registered by now. A friend of mine is looking for an audio manipulation program, I know where to point her. WMP, rest in peace. Well done Spoon, well done!!Comment
