    MMC Stops immediately

I lost my system drive a couple weeks ago, and was forced to rebuilt it.
In the process I upgraded the OS from XP Pro SP2 to SP3.

I finally installed MMC, and it seems to be terminating as soon as it starts.
The screen appears and disappears in less than a second.

Can this be corrected easily, or is it failing to find something it calls due to my SP3 update?

If anyone knows (without doing any research), I'd like to know if only to satisfy my curiosity.

My dAP version is R3 Beta 6, the latest. My DMCs are 11.5 installed as legacy dbPoweramp, and 13.1 reference also.

I have not tried the RESET yet (although I might get to it tonight...).

I've been working with dbPoweramp since early 2003, and I've gotten so used to it being part of my PC that I miss it. Compounding my frustration is that I don't have the time to dive into myself (my username does reflect my business).

I'm pretty sure I could wipe the machine of Illustrate software and re-install everything again, and that would only take an hour even with mis-steps.

I just thought I'd ask if there was a quick explanation / solution available from the "mothership's knowledge base".

Did you remember to install dAP and dMC 11.5 into a different folder than dMC 13.1?

In what order did you install them?

IF you are saying that you saved your collection, changed your operating system, reloaded your program and then added the backed up collection (and I am not sure that this was your process),
THEN I would think that the addresses of all the items in your collection may well have changed so that MMC has no chance to find the tracks in your collection (although I don't see how that would affect the momentary appearance and disappearance, also I would suspect that you might have already considered that).

The issue Wayne raises is very pertinent. Strange things have happened when Legacy codecs (or Legacy codec products) get messed up with the newer (non-Legacy) codecs and/or problems.

The dAP reset routine is designed to reset the dAP registery settings and it is VERY quick and painless. But it might not work. If your process was the process I mentionned, you might want to remove your collection, rebuild your collection in MMC from scratch and that should work.

              Best wishes,
              Bill

Thanks folks, you've answered my question.

This isn't a simple, well known conflict with an easy resolution.

I'll just wipe out the existing installs and start over with a check list to make sure I don't get out of sequence.

You might save your collection, even if it isn't on the same hard drive as it was...

You just need to rename the hard drive in the collection file (mmc). I did that a few times with reinstalls and new hard drives. So in a text editor (capable of working with big files , I've worked with Source edit, but also Xvi32) I renamed "d:\muzika\" into "H:\muzika\".

The check list is, as far as I know, dap, old dmc, legacy codecs, new dmc, new codecs. I think. And anyway when you install things later, just remember which folder is which and you should be ok. I installed on separate hard drives, so on C is the new one, on E is the old one. The new one I use for conversion in the system, and still use the old one sometimes from mmc.
