    Sudden loss... from the mcc

4th or 5th time, it happened again. All of a sudden, during adding new files to my mcc, the showing files number from 70.685 reduced to 18.976. No apparent reason, I have to add the files again to the mcc. I am in the middle of the procedure, so I do not know the result, but my experiance from such previous events is that no files are lost, but many files appear with not all their elements ( missing song titles, year, genre and definately the cd name of the songs). It is really a great loss, usually impossible to regain.

:(I am praying not to face such a case again, because this time the number of not appearing files is really great. But, for God's sake is there anything I can do to prevent this? ( I do very often the saving procedure, so it is not it) I have to repeat though that I add new songs all the time, and that I have put all these 70.000 songs in the same file in the storage HD. I am desperate, since I feel completely unsafe with my little treasure.

You can always backup your music collection database file (*.mmc in \program files\illustrate\dbpoweramp)

Here's a thread discussing backing up the MMC along with some code that can be used in batch files or scheduled tasks: http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthre...ghlight=backup

Well, as a matter of fact that backup .mcc file you're talking about is destroyd, giving much less data then it had. So? Up to now had not yet seen the other proposition. I am using the 11,5 version, I do backup all the time, but not in the C disc, in D disc which is a peartition of the C disc in the laptop. C disc does not have empty room enough to work with anymore. I can see though there is no way to take back the lost data, is there? Specially, I repeat the 'album' column, but occasionaly the genre, the year, or even the artist.

Thanks for the tips for backing up. That will be useful in the future...

So I feel completely ruined. Because I did what you just told me. Is it important the way? I did have a backup, I did update that backup nearly each day (which you proposed to make it automatic). But still, all the, profoundly unstable system, turn out to vanish. Out of 70650 tracks, I have now 1750 tracks with no data on genre, year and album. How can I ever find them. The genre I can cover listening each and every piece and put the genre, but where can I find the year or the album. I feel in the middle of a mess... So much work and vanished...

My collection's backup reference file is reduced, it has lost data. Why? I am really disappointed. I see that it can happen again, all the time. I do not see if all your guidelines can change the uncertain situation. Whatever we do, it can always happen, isn't it so? Only the artist-track titles are safe. And even those not completely (I had also nearly 20 songtitles without the artist's name!)

Please, for God's sake with so many reabilitate(don't find the right word) of broken harddiscs programs around we cannot have something to give us back the lost data? So, I must come to the conclusion that this program cannot be used professionaly? And a studio, wanting to make such a list uses another program? Is there such a program? Could you please name it?

Which version of dAP are you using as 11.5 is the dMC version btw? What formats are the audio files? What sort of drive are they held on, internal to your PC or networked? Could the fact that your c: drive is so full be the problem?

BTW What version of windows are you using?

Re: Sudden loss... from the mcc

I am not using the 3beta version and returned to the 2 one because I didn't have in 3 the info windows that open reaching each songtrack in the mcc. I have all my song files in an external HD of 2Terra in the mp3 form (256/48.000),Windows XP. Truth is my C disc is full, try to keep it empty but it gets full mostly with the recovery function, which I have to empty each fortnight. All this I do with my Sony/Vaio laptop bought in Xmas of 2005, unluckily for me with a HD of only 80GB. At that time I did not know that I should need so much space. And the difficulty is if I want to change the disc to a bigger one, I cannot do it in Greece. I have to send the laptop to Brussels, I also suspect that the possibilities of enlargement are low.

Re: Sudden loss... from the mcc

Misery continues. Tried to reboot the program, since this action in the past did miraculous things in re-builting the collection. Instead as a result I have that it even cannot reveal the music collection. So, the dAP is on, I hear music, but cannot see the music collection, nor work on it. Seems the editor.exe does not work, but really, could I do something about it?

Tell me, sincerely is it preferable to use the media player, is it safer?

Maybe significant detail.. Repeatedly in all this ...losing-the-data procedure, I get the message that editor.exe is not working well. I just tried to enter a mcc list that I keep from August and it could not be inserted, I got this editor.exe message and I lost the mcc. Could I do something about it (I already told you that I have reloaded the dAP)

The situation is getting even worse.. following your guidelines for factory setup. You did not prevent me from loosing more. I have only 26500 now, a completely different dAP skin which I don't like (this can be changed, of course), and exactly the same result (vanishing the mcc, when I tried to load the mcc of August). I will try now to get back in time my computer again to cure the situation, and I am sure I will count new losses of data again. My whole work is ruined... I regret I have worked on this program and hope I will soon find something else, only don't know where to search. A lmost 3 years of hard work, I see it being diluted into thin air, little by little. Only thing is that I will not lose the music. But I will have many untitled songs, songs by unknown artists, and all without the album reference or the year recorded. Things that I can't ever make up. Very very sorry for that.

OK. Getting pc back in time, I luckily came to the position I was, exactly. So my difficulty is to try and find out the missing data, not always easy to find, sometimes with unknown songs completely impossible. Since it is obvious that for some reason I am not aloud by the system to load my August collection, because this way I sort of 'destroy' the collection or the editor.exe, could I at least open and visualize from the data I have in that collection some names? Is there a way to open those data? (I mean the mcc and the mcg, you know what I mean).

I am forced to search and experiment a lot with the aim to find a best solution. I found out with a great surprise, that using the musicmatch player, I can have back my full id tag, which means that the data are not lost in the first place. How can that be, not to be able to have the complete id tag in the mcc, which I used to write them in the first place?
