    No editor.exe, no mmc

Don't know if it has something to do with that, but after I have changed my anti-virus, my mmc-dap became a little slow and lazy. So, I decided to reinstall it, as I have done again in the past. This time, happened that I lost my mmc, when I press the mouse-arrow I get the answer that editor.exe is missing. Looked around, but can't find editor.exe. Any idea what can I do? (told you again that music from dap is life to me, I'm really dead now!!!):(

PS. dap is playing music, but I cannot pop up my collection, nor put in it new songs, as I do each and everyday.

    Re: No editor.exe, no mmc(2)

OK, re-installing once more I managed to have my collection with no losses (all the files are there). But the 'add files to mmc' function is still impossible to work. Everything goes white and I wait, but no end to this. I use a 2TB HD, as I have told you, so it's not a matter of space. Is there a limit to the number of files in the mmc? I don't think so. Just overpassed the number of 70.000.

The solution was re-installing the anti-virus program this time. The first installation was not OK and stopped the program, it seems. Sorry for bothering you with my ancient software.

        Re: No editor.exe, no mmc

Sorry, I kept myself away all this time, because I managed to have incidents of mmc loss from time to time, but reload it and after some work, have things settled again, as they used to be. This time, though, when I have reached 83671 files (songs), I cannot rearrange things again. It's the third time now that I load the file with the songs from my 2TB deposit hard disc, and I get again in the end the usual announcement that there has to be a stop of the editor.exe program functioning, sorry for the fuzz, and so on... Thing is I cannot rearrange my mmc. Of course I keep on trying, but, hellas!, this time I am really disappointed, not knowing what to do.

I have to add that all my efforts to get the new playing machine going (mplay or something), was in vain, since I download i, but never saw a hint, so that I can execute it. Maybe I have to excert my existing player. But wouldn't it be fatal for my music collection? (Because each time I have the fuzz, I lose elements of the songs rated, like the year, the cd it is from, sometimes even the genre, and to have to deal with renewing all these with a list of 83.000 is really a pain in the ass.

I also asked of you in the past any suggestion at all for my existing problem of how can I find a technical solution to my problem, by any existing program. Isn't there any jukebox program for 100.000 or even 200.000 and, why not, 300.000 songs? Couldn't you recommend it? Where else can I find my solution? Why keep me unhappy. It's my life listening to my choises on the random use. Please!!!!

          1) Not sure why you can't arrange music, I think there were people with 100 000 files in the collection, but I am not sure if they were arranging stuff. I am not even sure where to start with possible reasons why this is happening.
The software is not really new, as you know it doesn't have UTF support, and it is not getting any updates. What it can do, it will still do well, and will do them well.
Unfortunetly you have to test on your own what you can do with the player. Backup things often, and hope for the best. Sorry that I (nor others I assume) can't be of much more help.

          2) Were you talking about uPlayer? The next generation player "Dbpoweramp Rennesaince" on these forums? It is still an early testing edition, and only has a command line interface, and no collection at this point. The explanations how to use it are on the pages where you download it, and around the forums. But it is not a player for everyday use yet. Maybe when use with a NAS, but I am not sure, since I haven't had much time to test that.

If you were talking about something outside this site, I doubt we could help you much.

          3) Well I think the reason no one is suggesting jukebox programs for such amount of songs, is that no one really knows, and can't suggest anything really good.
Most programs will behave a bit slugish depending on the computer when you cross a certain line with the number of songs. For me it was always good that dbpoweramp's mmc works fast when loaded, i.e. loads only a portion of the collection you are viewing, not the whole thing every time.

Thank you again, my friend, for your try, at least and your frankness. So, I come to the conclusion that I don;t really have anysolutions to make a choice of. The reason I insist, is, of ciourse, as you well guessed that, no matter what other players I have tried, I really love this one, it is a wonderful thing, appeals to everything I ever dreamed of. If it only was steady... Of course I know now that I had to do a defragment on my external 2TB disc, I am still on it,and hope for better results afterwards. I tried the monkey, but don;t really like it, at least more than dB. Tried also jetaudio, but couldnot download all my stuff. And, finally, yes, I meant uplayer, whish I cannot put in function, you said it does not function for an everyday use, so I'll wait... But why does it take so long, not an interesting item a good player to go next to a renwed converter? Thanks again.

              Re: No editor.exe, no mmc

It does take long, most people will agree
You should consider that this is a free player and that the developer is not getting any money from it, and on the other hand has to invest a lot of his time to make it. That is the main problem with the project. The ripping software is getting more development because there are paid add ons which sponsor the whole project.

You should maybe check out the options for NAS players, storing all your music on a network drive and playing it on any computer connected to the network. I think that is one of the main ideas with the new uPlayer, and it seems to me that some people are using it for that (see the uPlayer beta disscusion http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?t=17416). Not sure about the details, haven't done this, but it could be a good solution for you.

                Re: No editor.exe, no mmc

Thanks again, as soon as I finish the defragment operation (it keeps on working, after 20 Hours!!!!), I will begin to plan to follow your idea. Because, so far, I did not get a full idea about what it is about. Though, from my point of view, could it be safer to keep your archives out of your houser, in the mersey of whatever users of the netrwork? But, probably this is a chat I should do in the discussion you pointed out to me, about the new player. Thanks

PS. If paying or not is the problem, I wouldn't personally mind to pay for a player which fulfills my demands. And I would be mostly satisfied with the old DAP just as it is, if it just was steady enough, so that I wouldn't face the problems I face. But the possibilities to play the music from a specific number of yers, a genre, a certain artist, all the versions of a specific song title, all these are things that you don't find anywhere else. At least, I think so, at least in the mediamonkey, that seems to be a competitor of your wonderful program.

No current Illustrate products do this.
