    Error while converting

All I want to do is convert 320kbps MP3 to 160kbps MP3. I did this when I first got the program Im pretty sure but for some reason now it doesnt work it says

Unable to create compression CODEC 'Wave', please check software installation.

Im guessing this means it misses the encoding Wave codec, but when I got to try and install it on the codecs site there is no link since it is supposed to include it already. IDK what happened because I think it worked fine earlier.

Also how do I check for updates from my computer? Maybe I need an update altho I think I have the most recent version.

    Re: Error while converting

First, what version of dMC are you using? See below for how to find your version.
Second, are you trying to convert to a WAV-mp3 or a LAME mp3?

IM not sure how to find the version, nothing comes up below " See below for how to find your version." Ill try and find it. I think I have 11.5 but IM not sure

Umm, Im trying to convert Lame 3.96r to I guess Lame mp3 of just a smaller size and quality. So I open up the converter and it just brings up a folder view, I click on the file but it says
"Unable to create compression CODEC 'Wave', please check software installation."

Ill try to uninstall and reinstall, things seem a little funky now idk whats going on.

Okay I uninstalled and reinstalled and things seem to be working fine now, Im still curious though how do I update my dMC converter? If i go to the website and download the newest one will that just give me the sample 30day one or will it recognize the fact that I have it and update it?

Visit Registration Retrieval to get the latest registered version (link on the register page above).

You should be recognized as having a registered version. I believe you would download from the Registration page (as Spoon has indicateded) unless you want to upgrade to the Reference version.

Be sure to install the new version of Music Converter to a different folder than the one with your r11.5 and to update your codecs (the old codecs won't work with the new version and the new codecs won't work with the old version).

If you have CD Writer, you might want to download and install the r3 beta version of CD Writer from the Beta section of this forum. This is designed to work with the new version of Music Converter.

You can still use the current version of CD Writer with your r11.5 of Music Converter and if you have Sveta or dAP, these also will work with the your r11.5 Music Converter. For all of these programs you will need to use the Legacy Codecs from Legacy Codec Central (you will find a link to these at Codec Central).

If you had installed one of the new r12 codecs into your r11.5 version of Music Converter, this could have caused your Music Converter to behave erratically.

          Best wishes,
          Bill

When I said "see below", I meant in my signature where it said "need to find your version?"
