    keylogger spyware??

I downloaded dbPowerAmp from Source Forge and installed it. When I ran it, Zone Alarm warned me that dbPowerAmp wanted to monitor key presses etc. but I allowed it, assuming it was for some kind of hot key feature.

But then Zone Alarm began warning me that other programs that were running were suddenly trying to monitor key presses also. In fact, every program I ran was now causing the same warning. I uninstalled dbPowerAmp and restarted my computer (and as it shut down, every program running including some system services asked to be allowed to monitor the keyboard...I denied them all). After uninstalling and restarting, I didn't have the problem anymore. I hope whatever it was, is gone.

It sure sounds like dbPowerAmp was carrying some kind of infection that was trying to spread to all other running programs. Zone Alarm doesn't find any viruses in the install file though. What the heck was it?

dAP monitors your key presses, looking for hotkeys, especially global hotkeys. I don't know why ZA said every program was trying to do it, but it was just dAP monitoring your keypresses.

No dBpoweramp product ever has or ever will contain spyware or viruses.

It is how Windows works with global hotkeys, the dbpoweramp dll is loaded into every program started.

That sounds strange to me. I have other programs that use hot keys, and none of them cause every other program to also try to monitor the keyboard. This even happens when dbPowerAmp is turned off.

What hot keys does dbPowerAmp respond to, anyway? I don't see anything about it in the help, or on any menus. Can it be turned off?

If you go into the dAP Start Menu folder into Configuration, I believe, you will see a item called "Keyboard Shortcuts" or something similar, that is where you adjust the keyboard options.

Do you have a link? I know that the Spoon Installer is on Sourceforge.

Sorry, maybe that was Tucows. (I was downloading a lot of different audio players to test. The point is, it was from a reputable source.)

Hm... If dBpowerAMP were open source, developers would swarm all over the place.

Pro: Future releases of dBpowerAMP would come out a heck-of-a-lot faster.

Con: Someone could possibly decrypt the registration aspect of the program. x_x
