Cannot play FLAC files with dAP

I have downloaded the FLAC plugin, dAP and dBpowerAMP Converter (the latest versions that are available as of today) and installed them successfully.

Now, when I want to play FLAC files using dAP, it doesn't recognize the FLAC extension. From the playlist editor if I select, "Play Individual Music File" which, displays an Open dialog box, I do not see FLAC in the filetypes drop down box.

When, I drag and drop the files in the playlist editor, they get added to the playlist but, the size and length fileds display "0" and the kbps & kHz fields are empty. When I try to play any of these FLAC files, they don't play at all !!

I have tried reinstalling the FLAC plugin and dAP but, to no avail !!

Any help in this regard would be highly appreciated.

BTW, I wanted to see if WMP would play FLAC files and therefore, installed the FLAC plugin available for WMP and it seems to do the job well. But I wanted to use dAP and thus the fuss !!

    Thanks.

Re: Cannot play FLAC files with dAP

    Kevin-
If your downloads were only very recent, you might have missed that you need the "legacy" FLAC codec (and r 11.5 dMC, which you refer to as the Converter). But the version of the converter on the Products page is r12 and the FLAC (and other Codecs) that are in Codec Central are for r12. They will not work with dAP.

This is the likely source of the difficulty you mention. Try going back to the products page and check out the discussion about using dAP with R12. It may be that dAP has everything you need except for the legacy FLAC Codec, so you might try that first. It may take a little finagling to find the right spot to install it (it will not work with dMC r12). If that is a problem for you,
    please post back.

    Best wishes,
    Bill

If you do need the legacy FLAC codec, first uninstall your current r12 FLAC codec. Then install the old FLAC codec and the install the new r12 FLAC WITHOUT uninstalling the old one.

You must remember to not install r12 and r11 in the same location see this link here http://www.dbpoweramp.com/legacy-compatibility.htm

[SOLVED] Re: Cannot play FLAC files with dAP

Thanks a million to all of you for your help and guidance. :komisch9:

I guess all I needed was the legacy FLAC codec.

Thanks for the link Wayne. I downloaded the flac codec from the link provided and now I can play FLAC files using dAP !! :komisch12

Now, I have converter R12 installed to another location along with the new FLAC codec and dAP is not affected by it. While installing the new FLAC codec, the installer warned of another FLAC codec installed ! I selected the option not to uninstall it and all went well ! :smile2:

          Thanks again to you all.

          Cheers.
