    Question on real alternative/wm player

There is a site that I use to listen to music, in the past when I clicked on the song it would bring up the player, now when I click on the player it tries to connect but never brings the play up.

If I right click on the song then it brings up the box that shows the transfer rate and it will say it will take twenty minutes to load yet it takes about 3.20 min. to load.

Not quite knowing how to phrase this, is it the player on the site that might be causing the difference. Not all sites that I use causes me this problem, if I have made enough sense perhaps someone might have a thought.

    Thanks

Re: Question on real alternative/wm player

    Two things are happening here.

That site has not wrapped the audio file in meta file in order to allow pseudo-streaming of the file, so you have to actually wait until it downloads and only after that it will start playing. Or maybe the audio file is wrapped in a meta file but it's been encoded at too high a bitrate for your connection speed. But then you'd experience a lot of stuttering too.

The other thing is I think WMP has a setting to detect connection speed, perhaps it's not enabled or it's set to consider a dial-up speed, while you may be on a fast connection.
