    a few questions

    Hi

I am really confused and annoyed.

I wondered if anybody could answer a few questions for me, as I have tried search engines, microsoft & sony support for answers to my queries and have ended up nowhere.

What is the copy protection option for in windows media player when ripping a cd? Is it illegal to have it turned on or off when ripping, as it's not my music e.g. it's a coldplay cd, not a song I've made.

When I buy songs from msn music do they come with licences or anything like that? If they do, are they saved on my pc? Do I need to back them up?

Also I have a sony nw-e405 mp3 player, but have decided to get a creative zen sleek. I have bought some songs from the connect store in the past and would like to convert these into mp3, wav or wma. But I don't know how to do this and wondered if there was any way or if I could get my money back instead?

Any answers would be much appreciated.

    Thanks :smile2:

Personally I would turn it off.

You are correct. When you buy any songs online you will be provided with licences that will be stored on your PC's hard drive. To ensure that you can still play the songs in the event of a hard drive crash you will need to backup both the songs themselves and any licences.

It is not illegal to switch off the copy protection option in Windows Media Player.
