    DB Amp won't play CD

I have the new King's X CD called Ogre Tones. When I put it into my computer and try to play it using the Play Audio CD, I get an error message that the CD contains no audio tracks. Windows Media Player can play it. And even odder, the CD Audio Input can see the tracks for ripping. I just can't play it. (Note: I do not have any of the Sony/BMG DRM crap on my computer.) This CD is an ECD and the only thing that shows up if you browse the disc is a MPEG for a video. Maybe this is confusing the Amp?

Put your enhanced CD in your drive.
    Open dAP.
    Click on Open (Music Files).
If you need to, browse to your drive with the enhanced CD.
Select the track(s) you wish to play.
    Play them.
You can add tracks to your dAP queue by right-clicking the tracks you want and selecting En-queue in dAP. This allows you to replace the tracks in their original order (the drawback of this method is that tracks will be displayed in alphabetical order).
EDIT: Please forget the above procedure. What happened is that I was experimenting with strategies for trying to access my single enhanced CD, I had somehow had the Open Music Files to Play set to the folder that ahd the tracks I had ripped from the enhanced CD and I then proceded to fool myself into thinking I had opened the CD. :o :o

If you have the Power Pack, you can play any tracks you wish from Audio CD Input using the Preview feature (this does not require dAP).

Or go ahead and rip the tracks to MMC and listen to them that way.

Please note that while the infamous and short-lived Sony rootkit DRM (digital rights management) ploy is the most notorious example of copy-protection, there are many forms of copy protection in use by many CD manufacturers designed to prevent copying of CD's on your computer (irrespective of your intentions). This includes strategies that will allow some disks to be played on a CD player but not on a computer's CD drive. Some programs seem to do a better job than dAP does (at present) in accessing music data files on these sorts of discs, as you have pointed out).

    Best wishes,
    Bill

Re: DB Amp won't play CD

dAP has suddenly decided not to play any of my CD's. dAP is the only player associated with playing my CD's and has been for years. The Windows CD Player will still play the CD's. But only if I open the player manually. Nothing will play from my folders thru Explorer with either "Open" or "Play in dAP" options, or thru dAP's "Open Files" option.
The "Open" options error msg from Explorer says there is no program associated for performing this action. (See attachments).

A "dAPResetAll" did nothing except lose MMC library. A Windows restore got 'em right back.

Looks like there may be some info missing in the 2nd screenshot?
      Anyone seen this before?
      Thanks.

        Craze-
If you scan lower in the File Associations window (accessible from the Control Panel), do you find a line for files with the extension CDA? If so, what is the program assigned to open it? If it is not dAP, can you set it to dAP? Will that fix it?

The other idea (which I imagine you have tried) is to go:
Start>All Programs>dBpowerAMP>Configuration>File Associations to check if you have dAP or anything else assigned to open .cda files. Is this already showing your .cda files assigned to dAP?

If these ideas don't work, it might help to know what Windows version you are using and whether you have tried adjusting your dMC Advanced Ripping Confiuration (Start> All Programs> dBpowerAMP Music Converter> Configuration> dMC Audio CD Configuration) to Windows Internal (Limited).

        Hope some of this helps.

        Best wishes,
        Bill

Re: DB Amp won't play CD

          Hi Bill,
Thanks for your help. dAP has the only .cda file association and it is checkmarked. If unchecked, the CD Player has finally regained control. dAP has not relinquished this since my earlier post. dMC Audio CD Input configuration has me locked out. (See attachment). Unable to input anything in the top space. However, the Audio CD Input was showing the E:/Drive briefly in the options listings where it has been missing.

Windows CD Player and Windows Media Player will play on both drives E: & F:, but with no sound on E: which is also the Burner drive. The Burner says no drive connected also,...so no disc reading or recording is possible.

We're still on 98SE and have reinstalled the com packs to no avail.
I have two hard drives and wouldn't think both are affected, but they are.
I haven't gone for the OS file extraction of the ASPI files yet. But it's on the list.

The E: drive is working with other formats for data, pics, etc. And showing time passing (while playing silently). Just not in dAP or the burner.
Also, 'restoring' the Registry has not resolved the problem from archived .CAB files dating back thru two years.

Back in business after replacing the apix.vxd & wnaspi32.dll system files from the OS CD. Seems that they had become corrupted or something.
My CD burner's vendor file checker was able to make the replacement painless.

The Adaptec-ASPI-Version-Checker from the dMC Audio CD Input FAQ page is still reporting its not properly installed as noted that it might in the ASPI Trouble Shooter text guide on the same page.

Hope this will be helpful to others.

            Best wishes.

              Craze-
              I'm glad you're operational.
As you are probably aware, the Support section for Audio CD Input has a few other tips for correcting ASPI issue in Windows 95 and 98 located here:

(I really mention this for the less experienced user with a similar problem, though if it is helpful for you also-so much the better).

              Best wishes,
              Bill

Yes. That's the page I was quoting from.

Word up: Check the "Trouble Shooter" at the bottom first.

                Thanks Bill.
