    MMC Database Format

Is the MMC database format available or published anywhere? I want to get someone to write me a piece of code that will extract the multiple genres I have for most of my music in MMC and populate the relevant tags with it.

    Thanks.

I'm not sure about the format but it is possible to export the contents of MMC. You can control the format of the data export deciding which fields that you require. It is also possible to create special presets thus saving details of particular formats.

Click on the Collection button and select Export from the menu.

The genres is the most difficult part, they are held externally and pointed to from the main record by a location, not easy...much better with the html export option.

as far as i understod the next versions of dmc will have a posibility for multi-genre (right Spoon?). that will solve the problem right

or for a fast solution d othe export with the file names and the genres. that would be the input for the prog that would then load the files and set the tags... I don't know how to set tags so don't ask me...

The next version of dmc will have multi genres, the problem is it might not be a propper standard, so if anyone knows of any programs using multi-genres in exisiting id tags, shout.

I did some experimenting with the export feature last night and experienced data corruptions.

When I get home I'll return here and post examples of what I was obtaining.

That's a good idea although I'll do a text export, thanks.

ID3-TagIT although I've found the program a bit flaky. I'm told Foobar2000 and MP3Tag do as well.

I guess I ought to confess that I'm finally drifting away from the dAP suite. I've been thinking about it for quite a while, primarily due to the limited tag handling and the fact that I use Squeezeboxes for audio playback now, but I didn't ever find anything that came anywhere near the functionality; I now have.

Given how long it's been since a dAP update I think it's testament to the excellent work Spoon put in in the early stages that it's taken me this long to find a replacement. I remember when Shuffler started to disappear and dAP replaced it that updates appeared thick and fast - a few days from request to implementation including being able to select for random play which must have been complicated to put in. I guess you have a life now Spoon?! ;-)

So, thanks Spoon, your programs have given us a lot of pleasure over the years. I'll keep an eye on the forum in the hope that the next release will, once again, blow away the competition.

(and one of these days I'll remember that the system puts my name in for me so I don't have to!)

Seems to be a string corruption, dAP seriously needs NClass (a total re-write), see what happens when R12 is out of the way.

I think my MMC must have read that as every previous time I've used the export facility it has worked. Subsequent to that message every time I use it it crashes!

maybe it is a problem with the mmc file.. do you have a backup or something? I usualy save a backupfrom time to time (i.e a few months or after a big addition to the mmc)
