It looks to me like your last choice before using dMC Auxiliary Input is to uninstall Directshow and Real Alterantive and install the older Real Audio codec and Real Player. Follow up with a reboot and a verification of dMC Configuration and an attempt to play the file in Real Player at least.
Then hopefully you can convert. If it works, it will be done in real time and it will not show any progress at all until it's done. So before deciding it's dead, wait until the normal duration of that audio file would have been elapsed.
