    Re: MP4 Conversion not working

    Hi All,

I played the music in windows media player and irfanview mp3 player. I tried several different files that play fine with the same result. I've also uninstalled and reinstalled several times but get the same result.

And no I've actually never been to Itunes.

the technology gods are against me :(

What are the settings of your mp4 file? Bits (16 or 24), channels, frequency (44100)?
Also, try a Test Conversion of your file. If it fails, dMC cannot decode your file.

        Re: MP4 Conversion not working

        Hi,

I did a test conversion and it worked fine.

But if I try to go Wav or Mp3 to Mp4 no dice. Now it said the CODEC required to compress the file (used same song i used for test) could not be opened and still unable to run encoder.

          Re: MP4 Conversion not working

Ok, let me get this straight. Your input file is C:\~dmcin.wav ? This looks fishy to me, like it's an intermediate file of somethting . I've actually seen this file name recently and I an't rememebr wehre, why and under what circumstances.

So your input file is a .wav and you are trying to convert it to .mp4 which fails.

What are the specs of your .wav file? bits, frequency, channels? is it a compressed .wav by chance or is it a pcm .wav?

When you try to convert it to .mp4 what did you select for the quality settings?

And where are you sending the output? hopefully not to a cd drive; don't opt for deleting the input file either.

Ahh, your input file is a WAV. Again, how many bits (16 or 24), Frequency, and channels?

              Re: MP4 Conversion not working

I posted a reply last night but I don't see it.

Oh well, it plays in at least 3 different players including windows media player. So, the files aren't corrupt. I have re-downloaded codecs at least 4 times.

              And I don't use I tunes.

So, at this point have no idea why I'm having so many problems. It will encode to anything else but MP4. And my files are not protected.

Please answer these questions so we can try to pinpoint your problem. And you say you CAN convert to formats besides mp4?

                  Re: MP4 Conversion not working

                  Hi,

I'm trying wav AND MP3 to MP4 with same results.

I used the exact settings you suggested in prior response and the following.

                  For the wave it's 16 bit 1 channel and 8000 frequency. I've tried 16 2 and 44100. Same response....unable to run encoder.

                  The Mp3 is 128 bitrate 44100 2 channels Stereo.

When I'm trying to convert to MP4 I've tried to select Normal and 48 bits with same response unable to run encoder. (Unable to run encoder 'C:\Program Files\Illustrate\dBpowerAMP\Compression\Mp4 (CLI)\encode.bat'

Also, I am encoding them to a file not a CD.

                    Re: MP4 Conversion not working

Hmm. Try converting your source WAV to 16-bit 1 channel 44100 Hz first and then 16-bit 2 channel 44100Hz. Lastly, convert this final WAV to mp3 or mp4. I think the problem is the low frequency of your source file.

Optionally, you can have Professional Frequency Conversion turned on.

Go through Start Menu >> All Programs >>dBpowerAMP Music Converter >> dMC Configuration and then check off Professional Frequency Conversion

                        Re: MP4 Conversion not working

Whether PFC (Pro Frequency Conversion) is checked has no bearing on this problem. It seems that the mp4 decoder and for certain the mp3 encoer doesn't like the low frequency of her source file. Also, trying to change both the channels and frequency at once won't work either when they tried to make a WAV file. Therefore, doing this one step at a time (increasing frequency and then changing channels later) should solve the problem.

Edit: However, checking PFC would make the resulting file sound better due the large frequency change.

                            Hi

Well, some of my wavs were already the specifications you had. But, I tried again and I reinstalled the codec again and same result. Says it can't open the file.

Ok you'll never believe this......for some reason it popped into my head to turn off my firewall and when I did.....it worked. So, it was my Kerio firewall all this time.

Thanks for all your time and suggestions! My goodness I have spent so much time on this. I'm just glad it's over!

But now I'm curious. How'd a firewall cause a conversion problem?
