Cyrillic Tag - error after converting

Cyrillic Tag - error after converting

    Hello!
Need your help with Cyrillic Tags.
    dBPowerAMP Music Converter Release 11
    1.mp3 to 2.mp3
    in 1.mp3 - there's ID3v1 & ID3v2 have Tags on russian (cyrillic).
After converting 1.mp3 to 2.mp3, cyrillic changes to some unreadable symbols.
In dBPowerAMP release 9 there wasn't such a problem as I remember.

Would you please advise a soluton?

    Thanx anyway!!!

for example - in WinAmp playlist.

    when I move a mouse to mp3 (1.mp3 or 2.mp3, doesn't matter) - it's unreadable!

Err... that link goes to a site where apparently one has to sign in.

Anyway, leave Winamp aside for now.

If you put the mouse over the file name in Windows Explorer, do you see a proper pop-up info? Is it readable? If you edit the tag, is it ok?

          is it better??

          1) no, I see unreadable pop-up info. By the way, at the same time, in WinAmp Playlist (and any other player) Tags are readable.

          2) if I edit it in WinAmp - the same error in pop-up info of dBpowerAMP!

Actually I still cannot connect to that image file from that site. 5 minutes and it's still trying to get it. Either it is a huge file and the server is very slow, or the site does not allow access to non signed in people so it will never download anyway.

I don't have such a file with cyrlillic characters in either the file name or in the tag information, so I cannot test to see what happens. I have used various Latin-based characters and they get preserved OK, like the accents in French or Spanish. I will try to find something on the net and see what happens. :smile2:

dMC R11 will write an APE 2 tag, winamp is a bit outdated and cannot read such. In dMC configuration - click tag settings and set dmc to write id3v1 + id3v2

you meant "ID Tag Options" -
                ID3v1 UTF8 Write
                Write ID3v2 Unicode

Re: Cyrillic Tag - error after converting

If I have already converted the music file from .cda to .mp3 (lame), can I simply edit the ID tag - typing Cyrillic from my keyboard using the WinXP language support? I did this, but did not get readable characters. I have used v.11 to convert the file, but did not have the Unicode tag support toggled "yes".

Note that full Unicode support will not be forthcoming until dMC r12. If your filename has Unicode characters, this will not work until dMC r12. Sorry.

Re: Cyrillic Tag - error after converting

So, let me see if I understand... v.11.5 supports read only cyrillic - the ability to write the tags or edit them in cyrillic will not be available until v.12? In short, if the tags are not there already in Unicode, I cannot change them. Correct?

Re: Cyrillic Tag - error after converting

                          Partially correct. From the link:

So it looks like you cannot edit tags that contain Unicode and that you need R11.5 and a few other settings to correctly display flags. However, dMC can write Unicode tags if the above settings are correct when it converts tracks or rips CDs.

What I am trying to do is place some of my Russian music CD's on my iPod. The cyrillic titles on the CDs show up under iTunes.

I first used my explorer window to right-click and convert to mp3s using dBpowerAMP (v.11.5), but lost the tags, even when I selected the "yes" to the Write ID3v2 Unicode under dMC Configuration.

I loaded Sveta Portable Audio (trial version) and tried to send to the iPod using m4a compression (FAAC CLI), but received an error report that the program was unable to initialize the encoding to convert the file. So, I was unable to see if the tags would follow to the converted file on the iPod using Sveta.

I would use the iTunes to transfer the files, but have been told that the Apple codex used will cut out the highs and lows of the audio file. I am tired of having my CDs flying all over the car when I drive, and am desparate to get them on the iPod. Help!

R11.5 cannot type non-ansi chars in to a tag, but they will tensfer from file to file if already in unicode (note not filename).

R12 beta will be appearing (first popup info and tag editing) in the next 4 weeks, full conversions will be much later.
