[QUOTE=ChristinaS]Yep. You cannot use dMC to directly decode them.

    What do you mean directly?

dMC can only decode an unprotected file in order to convert it to something else. If the file is protected, you must first unprotect it by other means, dMC cannot do that.

I just said to look at the FAQ section of the forum for dBpowerAMP. Not the one at the top, the one inside this very section we're in.

            1. Excuse me, I have gay friends. Please don't use that language, it offends me, even though I am straight.

            2. To answer the last post: I think you can use the Auxiliary Input to take the audio from the protected file, but I've never done this before. Does anyone know if Auxiliary Input decreases audio quality?

Christina, I think ALL iTunes are copy-protected. There is , of course that !@#$%^&* program, but I have no idea whether it works or not. I think the re-recording using a program such as "Auxiliary Input" is the only sure way.

If iTunes allows you to burn them to an audio cd, then you can just rip that cd to whatever format you like. Otherwise you'll have to refer to the various tools described in the FAQ section concerning iTunes conversions.
Have we established that that works, or does the copy protection "carry over"?

The iTunes decoding codec works with any QuickTime (registered / unregistered).

Yes, of course, one can play (decode) a downloaded iTune on any computer. But, with respect, I thought the problem the poster had was the conversion of a downloaded iTunes track to another format, which is what Apple's copy protection appears to prevent (or make extremely difficult).

If' it's encrypted, then only the rightful owner can play the file (i.e. the computer holding the license for that iTune file, basiclaly teh one from which it was downloaded). I believe I've seen reference to iTunes allowing the burning of an audio cd (perhaps a limited number of times only) - again only from the licensed computer. Once it's on an audio cd, then it can be ripped. Even if there's a bit of copy-proetction on the audio cd (probably not) that can be bypassed usually.

And recording through dMC Auxiliary Input will be as good as the hardware permits and depends on the output settings used. Not a problem with quality usually, as long as the player can play it ok.

Yes, I was wrong about the playing on different computers. Thanks for the correction. But there is no limit to the number of CDs that can be burned. I think also that one can transfer to more than one iPOD.

doesn't it matter which program you use to burn the CD?

If its an m4p song, only iTunes can burn the song. Otherwise, any CD burning program that can decode mp4 can burn off the CD.

BUT i have a question: Are ALL iTunes songs copyprotected?

If you rip a CD with iTunes, probably not. If you buy it from the iTunes Music Store, yes.
