    .avi

    hi there,

When I download a movie, the movie is a winamp-media file so I can't open it with Windows Media Player. Also I can't convert it with dbPoweramp. He don't support the audio type ".avi" . He says that I can find it on this site, but I can't!!

Can anyone help me with my problem??

windows media player should be able to. just open windows media player then click open file to look for the .avi you have and it should play it. or try quicktime player http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/

              Re: .avi

How big is this .avi file? Uncompressed .avi can be huge and cover only a few minutes. Compressed .avi will be more reasonable, but again they are quite large files. A 5-minute music video in compressed .avi format can be 1GB, depending on many factors, such as frame size.

More importantly, .avi files can in fact be encoded in many different ways.

You may be able to find out about the file if you right click on the file name, select Properties > Summary . If offered the button Advanced, click on that too.

Take a good look at what you see there, if you were able to get that far.

Attached is a picture of what the properites of one of my .avi files look like. This one can play without a hitch in Windows Media Player. How do your .avi file's properties compare with mine? We may glimpse something from that.

You could also read the thread: http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?t=5655 for a bit more info on Video converisons.

Try this page and click on the "software" that you'll see there. Download
DIVX and install it. So far, it has played every avi file i have downloaded.

Download free DivX Software to play, convert and cast video including DivX, AVI, MKV and HEVC files up to 4K. Play AVI and convert to MP4!

You can also look for a small program called "GSpot" (google it). This
program can be used to determine the video codex used to create the file
in question. Once the codex is known, another google should be able to find
it for you. Then when the right codex is installed, the avi should play.

                good hunting,
