    Problems with "GetPopupInfo.exe"

I don't know if this is a repeat post or not, I did a search for it and found nothing. So here it goes, First, I have been using dbPowerAmp for years and I feel that is the best audio conversion program around, I use it constantly to knock bit-rates down to 128 Kbps(CD quality sound). Anyway, here's the problem "GetPopupInfo.exe" sucks up a lot of resources. I hit Ctrl+Alt+Del and look at the process list and find it sucking up as much as 800-900megs of RAM, I have a Gig in my machine. :( "GetPopupInfo.exe" is one of the features I love about dbPower Amp, it always made my life easier. :( It seems that there maybe a slight error in the coding that is putting in an infinite loop. It seems to only be occurring in the past two versions. Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Tom

Can you narrow down which files are causing the problem? often corrupted or nonaudio files (but with an audio extension) can cause the problem.

Interesting. I completely unintalled "dMC-r v10.1.exe" and installed "dMC-r11b5a.exe" and the problem seems to have resolved itself. :D If the problem creaps back up I'll let you know. Thanks Spoon

        Re: Problems with "GetPopupInfo.exe"

        Hi,

I had the exact same problem as described in the first post. Hovering the mouse over some files results in GetPopupInfo.exe going ballistic - it begins to eat memory and brings the whole system down almost to a halt (and I have a P4 3.2 with 1 gig of memory). That goes on for some time (like 2-3 minutes) then stops. I've been using dbPowerAmp for some time now and this is the first time it happened. I think the problem is related to the specific file(s) - it consistently happens here on some of the tracks of Ten Years After - Cricklewood Green ripped into APE with EAC. Another funny thing is that on the tracks that memory eating does not occur, GetPopupInfo.exe still does not show the tags info - though the info is there, e.g. foobar2000 correctly reads it.

And installing the new dMC-r11-rc1 did not change this in any way.

Spoon - if you would like, I can email you any additional info and/or the track itself that causes the problem - please let me know, the email is dima at rogers.com.

        Thanks.

            Re: Problems with "GetPopupInfo.exe"

The files that caused this problem are APE, generated by Monkey's audio converter version 3.9.9.0 (invoked from EAC). I am not sure about the tags' version - how can I check it?

One possibly related problem is - if I open the file's propertiess (in explorer) and go to the ID Tag tab (tab created by dBpowerAMP, shown in the lower right corner) - all tags are shown as empty. But they *are* there, e.g. both the foobar2000 and the Total Commander's lister show them. BTW, not only the tags are wrong in that file properties' tab - the Length and Size fields also show zeroes.

Please let me know what other info you need to diagnose this problem.

            Thanks.

Are you using dBpowerAMPs new 3.9 version compatible ape codec?

Thanks! Apparently I had an older version installed. I d/loaded and installed the latest version, and that solved the problem - both the tags display in the file properties dialog and the memory eating.

One minor thing is - I have a number of Russian disks, and while in the properties dialog's tab, the Russian tags show fine, in the explorer tooltip the russian letters in the tags show up as garbage. Interestingly, the Russian file names in the same tooltip shows correctly. Any ideas?

Make sure you are using dMC R11 from the beta section.

Windows XP SP2, normal US version, with "language for non-unicode programs" set to Russian.

For the file you sent, how many characters long is the artist, ie (ABC is 3 characters).

A quick look shows that the ID Tag is an APEv1 tag, this is not unicode compatible AFAIK, but it could be that a UTF-8 string was written to it (which is not the spec for apev1), what created the ape file?
