    Lossless Question

    Spoon,
I have some CD's with binaural tones (high and low frequency tones) under the sounds of falling rain that I use for relaxation and brain entrainment. I would like to put these on a mp3 player for convenience but the company says not to because it will loose irs effectiveness due to the mp3 "chopping off: the high and low frequency tones thereby rendering the CD ineffective? Would a lossless codec preserve the high and low frequency tones? If so which one? Are all "lossless codecs" created equal? I noticed that Apple has a lossless codec but still compressess. Which player would you recommend? Your thoughts are greatly appreciated.

    Re: Lossless Question

I always use monkey's audio ( www.monkeysaudio.com for the gritty details).

Yes, lossless compression will preserve everything - it is like a very efficient for audio zip program - it does compress but does not throw away audio information. So when you play the file it is bit-for-bit identical with what was on the CD.

    Good luck!

Lossless would keep everything, your choices would be an iPod (apple lossless - quite difficult to create such files - only iTunes), or a Rio Karma with FLAC.

        Re: Lossless Question

What are your preferences....I-Pod or Rio Karma? FLAC or Apple Lossless? Is one lossless better than the other?

        Thanks.

Depends on you, some people are iPod people, some are Karma - if style (perhaps perceived) then iPod, if technical abilities are king then get a Karma (will do gapless playback).
