New user: Very Slow conversion on 1st ever Conversion from cd to FLAC

Downloaded the trial version today.
Selected a cd and went to Music Converter to do my 1st cd to flac conversion.
Using both cores, Music Converter seemed to be doing well in converting the 11 tracks.
It looked like it was going to take about 30-35 mins.

HOWEVER, it's now been running for 1h 50m and showing as 87% complete.
It started to slow down about the 25 min mark when converting tracks 9 & 10.
It's now progressed to converting tacks 10 & 11 but if this is indicative of the time it takes to convert a cd to flac then I think my project has stopped before it starts.

Can anyone offer any reasons for such poor processing time?
I selected the option to confirm error level / check vs original and understand this will lengthen to conversion but this is what I wanted to make sure the copy is lossless for my digital streamer.

Anyone help me?

You would use 'CD Ripper' to run the conversion, not Music Converter.

If all is working correctly a CD should rip in under 5 mins.

Well that sounds like the best ever advice ;-)
It's still going at 3h 26m and now at 97%.

I'll wait for it to finish and try the CD Ripper - sounds like the future...

29 mins in and CD Ripper is on track 9 of 11.
So far, 5 tracks completed as accurate => tracks 6,7 & 8 completed as Inaccurate

Track 9 is 78% complete...

A couple of thoughts. The average CD I rip takes about 5 minutes, or less if in AccurateRip database already (based on ripping a few thousand CDs). Some that have frames requiring reripping can take an hour or more. I find that having a few different CD drives is useful. On one drive, it may produce errors in ripping but on a different drive, it rips fast and secure. And this doesn't require expensive fancy drives. Any old drive may be good. I salvage drives from old computers at work to use. And I've bought a few drives for $5 or $10. I use a housing that allows me to put the drive in a USB box so I can use an internal drive connected via USB.

another thought. Is "use C2 error" ticked or not in your ripper settings? If ticked, untick it and try to rip one of these problem CDs.

For each track that is ripped, the Ripping Status will show either Ripping or Encoding e.g. Pass x Ripping x% or CPUx Encoding x%, where x is a number. Is the slowness you are describing, occurring on Ripping or Encoding?

excellent point. And while you're at it, tell us whether you are ripping to your local "C:" drive or is your destination a network drive somewhere or NAS.

ripping to my c drive (music)
longer term plan is to copy flacs to NAS when I'm happy with the product/process/results

I've seen that problem when "ticking" the use C2 error in ripping options, secure ripping settings. Have you tried unticking that setting.

not yet - it's my 1st time ripping.
I thought it best to let it complete naturally.
after completion I will look for the C2 error check in settings and untick it and try again.
could it be just that the original cd is corrupt? I previously used Windows Media Player to rip an mp3 version that had all manner of skipping in the end result. That's why I was looking for a product with better error detection/correction....

I woudn't. I'd cancel ripping. speed of 0.1 is definitely a problem and not normal. No need to waste the hours it will take to rip at that speed, not to mention the stress it is putting on your CD drive.

try it with C2 error secure rip setting "unticked"
