    converting mp3 to wav problem

when I convert an mp3 to a wav the wav for lack of another way to describe sounds like chipmunks singing and words can't be understood. I've been converting for a long time then suddenly one day this event happened. I deleted dbpoweramp from my system and re-installed and re-registered but didn't fix the problem. Would appreciate a solution because dbpoweramp is the BEST when working right. Also these bad converted wavs won't play with Windows Music Player. Thanks.

      dot in mp3-wave
      settings on next screen are
      48 kbps
      Bit Rate (CRB)
      Encoding Normal
      the advanced settings says
      Frequency (as source)
      Channels (auto)
      and check mark in original
      all else blank

Try as uncompressed wave, then play it back, how does it sound?
