Help! Wrong Length/Bitrate/Compression on VBR MP3

    Hi friends in this forum,

I'm a new user of dbPowerAMP 9.0. Recently I encoded some MP3 music using EAC and LAME 3.90.3 with the "-Alt-Preset Standard" option. Afterwards I go to Windows Explorer and view the audio file info displayed by dbPowerAMP. Strangely, it reported these info wrongly:

Length (mm:ss) : 18:12 reported, but it should be 4:27
    Compression Ratio : 30 to 1 (3%) reported
    Average Bitrate (Kbps) : 46

I wonder if there is some problem for dbPowreAMP to read VBR MP3, resulting in a length too large, and hence too high compression and too low bitrate?

Much grateful if you can help me figure out the problem. Is there any solution?

    Many thanks!

Go for Release 10 in beta section of this forum, I think has been fixed.

Spoon, thanks for your very prompt and responsive reply!

I've tried the latest beta Version 10. This time the length is less deviated, but still not correct. For the same 4:27 song, it's displayed as 6:59! Do you have any idea?

For your information, I'm using Windows 98 SE, and the length of the song is taken from the display of WinAmp 2.80.

One more question, I can't reach the "beta" page (and some othre pages) using Netscape 7.02. Only IE can reach these pages. I just wonder if Netscape isn't "supported" here...

      Thanks in advance.

The thing about the length - for those VBR type files if the header cannot be found that states the length then it is estimated on the average bitrate of the first 1000 or so frames, it is the best that can be done.
