    Converting from FLAC to m4a FDK (AAC): Publisher field is empty

    Hello,
    how can I manage to preserve the PUBLISHER tag when I convert from FLAC to m4a?
    In the "Map" tab in DSP effect "ID Tag Processing" I added a new mapping selecting "Label" from the pull-down menu and entered "PUBLISHER" (without quotation marks) into the [name mapping to] field, but this does not work.

    Which program are you checking Publisher in?

      foobar2000, Mp3tag, Plex, Winamp

      EDIT: Just also checked VLC player using PUBLISHER, too.
      Plus it's also part of the ID3 tag version 2 definition:

        m4a does not use ID3v2 tags, but rather Apple iTunes tagging.

        Right click on the m4a file >> edit id tags >> add a new tag Publisher and set a value, click ok.

        It should write an @pub tag which is correct.

          So it is not possible by using the dbpoweramp converter (I know that I can edit the tags with software, preferably foobar2000 and Mp3tag) - in this case I use the converter in foobar2000 in the future and manually remove the original files afterwards.

            Just tested, latest mp3tag and it reads the publisher if the flac file has 'Label' tag and DSP ID Tag Processing is used to map 'Label' to 'Publisher'

            Foobar 2K will not read it, it looks like a bug in Foobar2K and I will report it.

              Yes, exactly - thank you very much for confirming and reporting that!

                Just wanted to add that Mp3tag and other tools also don't read it, most likely because it shows up as ORGANIZATION in dbpoweramp.

                So to me it still looks like a fault in dbpoweramp, because ORGANIZATION is missing from the pull-down menu.

                  That came from FLAC (which uses Ogg Vorbis tags), the standard for Label is Organisation.

                  You can change that option in dBpoweramp Control Center >> Audio Codecs List/options.

                  " ORGANIZATION Name of the organization producing the track (i.e. the 'record label')"

                  See :

                    I already checked this setting, but I cannot see how it should solve my problem - there's still no PUBLISHER in the tags after conversion.

                      It would have already been written as Organization when creating the flac file, so you need to map

                      Organization >> Publisher

                      when converting to m4a

                        This is how I tried:

                        Click image for larger version Name:	2025-09-29_16h05_39.jpg Views:	0 Size:	64.8 KB ID:	335312

                        And this is the result:

                        Click image for larger version Name:	2025-09-29_16h08_39.jpg Views:	0 Size:	65.3 KB ID:	335313

                        Could you please provide a step-by-step instruction?

                        I would also like to preserve the MEDIATYPE tags.

                          It mapped the Organization tag to Publisher, you can see it as the last tag. If you no longer want Organization add it to the deletions tab.

                            Have you already reported the foobar2000 glitch?

                              I've always found the MusicBrainz tag mappings to be a good choice for compatibility, which in this case recommends the use of `LABEL` for FLAC/Vorbis (assuming you're actually storing the record label and not the publisher).

                              It appears that dBpoweramp converts:
                              Code:
                              LABEL -> com.apple.iTunes.@lab
                              PUBLISHER -> com.apple.iTunes.ORGANIZATION
                              Which is why foobar2000 shows it after conversion as ORGANIZATION.

                              Isn't it then a problem with the converter, as it should be mapped to @pub (going from Spoon comment earlier)?
