Problem with gapless playback after conversion

    Hi
I am a fairly inexperienced user of dMC.

I have an album ripped as WMA which plays gapless perfectly in WMP12. I can't be certain what software I used to rip.

I converted it to flac using dMC and these files play with a discernable gap or fade between tracks on WMP12. I think the codec being used in WMP is libavcodec.

Are there any ideas as to why this is happening?

    kind regards
    John

The source file is WMA Lossless?

Not sure how I determine that.
It shows encoder Windows Media v12.7600.16385 and bitrate vbr1152 though in WMP it shows bitrate of 700 -900Kbps. I'm not sure if that's lossless or not.

Your audio properties tab does show it as lossless - see below

Above shows bitrate as 1411, Win Explorer as 1411, WMP12 700 -800 and Tag/Rename as VBR1152. Why all the differences.

        Anyway hope this helps

Perhaps WMP cannot play FLAC gaplessly, try a player such as foobar 2000 as a test.

You are spot on of course - foobar plays it fine. As I'm keen to stay with WMP would a different flac codec (if there is one) make any difference?

I am moving to upnp next month and dreading it. Will Asset play flac and WMA Lossless gaplessly?

            Your help is much appreciated

Asset serves wma and flac losslessly! But upnp its self is not gapless, unless the player holds the playlist on the device its self.

I don't think that libavcodec is a standalone codec but it is included in FFDShow. Do you mean that one? Other possible codecs are madFlac and those from Xiph.org.

WMP can't do gapless playback if a DirectShow-type codec is used (which applies to all three codecs mentioned above). But it should be able to do gapless playback if you install a Media Foundation-type codec such as MFFLAC.
