Hello all,
I am looking for advice and suggestions about converting some of my FLAC files to AAC for use on my iPod. I am wondering what your experience tells you? What is good and what is bad.
I should say that I do not use my iPod for serious listening. My iPod is mainly used on public transport as background music while reading or doing other tasks. The highest quality possible is not that important since the noise levels on public transport would typically be very high anyway.
I have followed the instructions and have the m4a and Nero ACC codecs installed. Now I am ready to start converting but I see many options and do not fully understand the impact on the resulting file.
All my other ACC files, converted with iTunes, seem to be ACC (LC), 16 bits, with a 128 bit rate. I gleaned this information from the actual files in my iTunes library and therefor on my iPod today.
I can not see from the existing ACC files if they are VBR, ABR, or CBR.
I am wondering what you are doing when you convert to ACC for an iPod.
What do you recommend?
What should I avoid?
Do you convert to VBR, ABR, or CBR?
What bitrate do you use?
What value do you use for bits? How do you set this value?
Do you change the encoder to 'Force LC ACC' or leave it as '(no forced profile)'?
Do you use DSP effects? Which ones? What values? Why?
How do you get album art into iTunes?
If I want the same quality as the existing files which options should I use?
Any advice or suggestions from your experience would be most welcome.
Thank you,
Chip
