DBPowerAMP Music Converter R 13.1 - Disable Multicore?

When trying to rip music from a CD, I'd rather just use one core, as it's much faster. Typically, I use DBPowerAMP 11 to rip my CDs since it only takes a couple of minutes. However, when my computer tries to use all 4 cores of my Core i7 to rip music from a CD in DBPowerAMP 13, it takes 30 minutes compared to 5 minutes. Ripping CDs with multiple cores is asking for a lot, as CDs have a slow read speed.

Is there a way to disable and enable the multiple core support in DBPowerAMP? Multiple cores is a plus if I am converting music from one format to another on my hard drive.

There is a DSP effect 'Force CPU'

The only CPU effects I see are:

      CPU Throttle
      Force CPU Multicore

So is there one that would allow me to use single core?

something must be wrong your setup, multicore should be faster, with an i7 encoding should only be taking a couple seconds anyway, the ripping is what takes the time.

if multi-core is slowing down your other programs, then make sure its running at below normal or idle priority (check the drop down to the side of the option button).

btw, to set to single, use the force multicore dsp and only checkbox 1 cpu..

I bet you will find it even slower, as the ripper will stop to encode each track before ripping the next.

Thanks. That should work. No, there is nothing wrong with my i7. When it encodes a file from my hard disk to my hard disk it uses 300x real time encoding, which is super fast. However, as I stated, this is not the case when multiple cores are trying to read from a much slower CD. CDs should only be accessed by one core, or it's much slower.

Teknojnky is correct, using multi cpus should only free up ripping speed, not slow it down.

            Anyhow the correct effect is:

            Force CPU Multicore

where you can force to a single cpu.

That still doesn't sound right. I tried ripping the music from a CD using DBPowerAMP Music Converter 13 on several computers. Dual cores, quad cores, and it's always dirt slow on a CD since 4 cores are converting 4 tracks at once. It doesn't do this for you? I mean, I used DBPowerAMP 11 on the same core i7 and it converted the entire disc in 5 minutes instead of 45.

I'm not sure your understanding how it works...

with single core ripping it goes:
                rip track (pause)
                encode track
                rip track (pause

with the multicore ripping it goes:

rip track, start encoding, continue rip to next track without pause

it does not rip multiple tracks at the same time, it rips them sequentially and will keep ripping as long as there is a free cpu that is not still encoding.

if your tracks are short and your using a fast codec, the encoding will be done before the next track anyway, but if your using a slower codec (or long tracks), the next track may finish ripping while the previous track is still encoding.

you state that r11 only takes a couple minutes to rip, its not because of single core ripping, its probably because you have r13 setup for secure ripping and its making multiple passes or there is some other configuration issue or compatibility problem.

try setting r13 to burst rip and see if its still slow.

The CPU encoding should be many times faster than ripping (which is x20 speed), even if you had a slow codec and it was x20 on one CPU - with 4 cpus that is x80 speed encoding. When encoding to FLAC then you should see x60 encoding speed on one CPU.
