DMC Disagrees with other apps regarding ID3 Tags

I have an odd one, and I'm pulling my hair out.

I have a folder with 500 mp3s in it. I used MediaMonkey to mass edit all of the tags to have the same album name. When I am in Windows Explorer, and mouse-over 5 of the tracks, the album name displayed by DMC does not match.

I figured this was odd so I downloaded another ID3 tag editor and it shows the album name on these 5 tracks to be correct, as I created them in MediaMonkey.

I have cleared the album name meta info, saved the edited data, then re-added it, yet DMC still shows it as the original, incorrect information. These 5 tracks are not read-only and the proper ID3 info is displayed in other apps.

You must have 2x ID Tag types (perhaps ape2 and id3v2) in the file, dBpoweramp will tell you what tags are in the file in the popup.

As Spoon guessed you have APEv2 tags, which is what dMC is using I would assume, and ID3v2.3 and ID3v1.1 which everything else is reading.

So ... ok ... how do I fix it? Other tracks with APEv2 tags work just fine.

Change the tag in dMC's "Edit Tag" tab, that should fix it.

When you say other tracks with APEv2 tags work fine, do you mean the tags show up right in your ID3 editors?

I mean that they show up right in DMC. For example, the very next track shows up just fine:

"500 Greatest Songs Of All Time" is the correct tag.
"Rolling Stone Magazine Top 500" is incorrect. I can't find a way to change it.

Did you try right-clicking on the file and going to "Edit Tag" or going to properties and then to "Edit Tag"?

While I do have "'Edit ID Tags' on Right Click Menu" checked in my DMC config, I do not have that option when I actually right-click on an .mp3 file within Windows Explorer.

If I right-click and go to 'Properties', then click the tab for 'Summary' to view the tags, the Album Title is shown correctly. Therefore I cannot "correct" it.

Do you not have "Edit Tag" as one of the tabs when you go to the file's properties? Are you using a registered or trial version of the PowerPack or Reference?

I do not have "Edit Tag" on any tab when I right-click on a file and go to Properties. I am a registered user of reference 12.4.

If I click the tab for "Summary" then I can view/edit the tags for the file. But the "Album title" tag is already showing the correct value:

Do you have an "Audio Properties" tab? What version of Windows are you running?

No. I updated my previous post to show a screenshot. I'm running WinXP SP2, patched, etc.

Media Monkey cannot read APE2 tags, so it left the wrong values when you updated the ID3v2. dBpoweramp gives preference to the APEv2 tag, so is showing the old values.

I get that now, I'm just looking for a way to fix it.
