iPod Photo skips Apple lossless files converted from FLAC

When I convert FLAC files using dBpowerAMP and try to play them on my iPod Photo, the iPod skips every other file. If I click play on a whole album, this first song plays, but then every second song is skipped.

If I convert the Apple Lossless files to Apple Lossless again in ITunes, the problem goes away. I have also tried to change the tags slightly (as described in another thread) and update the iPod again, but this had no effect. I have also tried to run m4a optimize without any effect as well. It seems others are having this problem, but I cannot find a solution in the forum for it. Here are 3 other threads with the same problem:
I've ripped my CDs to FLAC w/medium compression. I then converted same to Apple Lossless and loaded to my iPod. iPod (30GB Video ver 1.2) skips over exactly every other song. I can go to the skipped song and play it manually (sometimes it takes a few tries). For all other music not encoded thru dbPowerAmp, the unit plays songs

I've been using DBPowerAmp to convert my old FLAC files over to Apple Lossless so I can play them on my iPod, but I'm getting some strange effects on some files. iTunes itself can play all the files just fine, but when I play them on the iPod after 4 lossless tracks it will skip past every other lossless track, even tracks it's

Hi. I originally encoded 100s of CDs as FLAC and lossless WMA. I used dMC and the Apple Lossless codec to re-encode these files to Apple Lossless when I switched to iTunes and iPods. The files work perfectly within iTunes. However, when I am listening to a playlist or album on the iPod, the iPod will skip over every

I also have an old (monochrome) iPod, which works fine with the exact same files. This leads me to guess that it has something to do with embedding album art in the m4a files (although the album art displays fine on the iPod)? This theory is strengthened by the fact that if I use the Tag&Rename program to embed album art into the files, the skipping gets even worse. Now the iPod skips every file in the album.

Is there any solution to this problem? It seems sort of silly to convert to Apple Lossless and then do the conversion again and it is also pain since it takes twice the time to add new songsā€¦

Thanks in advance for any hints.

    Regards,
    Lars

We are trying to find why it is skipping, but have had no luck so far (the fact we do not have the source code for an ipod, so it is just a black box which skips).

Album art should not play a part as current dBpoweramp ALAC encoder will not write album art.

      Try this version please:

Changes: Own m4a id tag reading / writing routines: album art support, multi artist, etc support ALAC encoder: stsc is always written with correct record count (Sonos requires) Download: http://www.dbpoweramp.com/codec-central-m4a.htm 1MB

Fair enough - I can see why it makes it a little difficult.

I tried the new version, but unfortunately I didn't make any difference. Converted FLAC files still skip on the iPod photo. :(

Try again, the codec was updated yesterday at 6AM, you may not have the latest version.

Any news on this issue? This is a real annoying bug in an otherwize amazing application. I have tried to find other converts that can do FLAC -> Apple lossless, but have not been sucessfull.

I believe ALAC files still skip, yes. However, normal m4a files play just fine.

Is this a problem on the newer (5+ gen) iPods as well? I'm having the same issues on my 4th gen Photo but looking at getting a newer one and would like to use dMC to convert my FLAC files to ALAC.

I believe it is still a problem on the new iPods, yes.
