It's not a particular file, as Spoon guessed, but something happening randomly with the ID3 tag writing at the end of the whole process. No, no crashes (so far) with tags stripped.

Just crashed so seems like something with the M4A (beta obvious) codec and multithreading.

Did you notice what file it crashed on? Can you convert that file individually?

it's never the same file or a specific file, so no it's not having trouble with any specific one. an album/folder/batch that crashed at the end will convert successfully without error on subsequent tries.

What setting are you encoding to? Are you forcing a profile? Is it LC, HE AAC, HE v2? What bitrate did you choose? VBR, CBR, or ABR?

Edit: Also, does it crash if you encode to a different format, such as WMA?

HE-AAC .25 VBR. Haven't tried another format yet.

If you install the Multi CPU encoder, just add m4a (Nero) and uncheck Multi-CPU it will effectively just encode on 1 CPU.

thanks for the reply. i'm not sure what you mean? i've downloaded nero digital and put the encoder .exe file in the "C:\Program Files\Illustrate\dBpoweramp\encoder\m4a Nero (AAC)" folder which is what allows it to encode.

there is the "neroAacEnc.exe" there. not sure where to uncheck multi-cpu?

In the beta section of this forum is a beta codec called "Multi-Encoder". Install that and uncheck the Multi-CPU box.
