    why is the file more than double the size it would be if the original way i converted files was working?

      Did you set the sample/frequency to 22050Hz? If you left it at the default of 44100Hz, it would be double the size it would be the other way. Also, I believe that at low-bitrates, you should check the "Force LC AAC" if you player does not support HE AAC.

        The frequency does not affect the file size very much, it's not proportinal. The bitrate and the number of channels do.

          So it's about 15-20 seconds?

          You have to know what bitrate you're aiming for with your mp4 file. I think the lowest is 48kbps (ABR). This should result in about 100K for your file.

          I don't know if it can work when strating with 22KHz or if you need the wav first converted to 44.1KHz before converting to m4a.
