I think I messed up the folder

    Hello -
I've been using dBpowerAMP converter off and on for a while, but I recently added the LAME MP3 codec to convert large wave files to mp3. The conversion progressed OK (about half way) then it stopped and an error message came up saying that the compression file could not be found.

I looked at the various folders that had accumulated under the main folder and saw all sorts of combinations. I moved some files that were the only files under their folder to the main folder because similar files were there. I then Deleted the emptied folder. I did this for several files (and folders).

Now, when I try to do any conversion (from wave file to whatever), I instantly get an error message after the selection of the wave file source location saying that the wave codec cannot be found. I don't remember moving the wave codec, but I might have. In the main folder that has the main .exe program, I have most of the codecs and compression files, including the wave codec and compression files, so I don't understand why the program does not recognize that they are present.

Did I mess up the file organization so bad that the program will no longer operate? If so, what can I do to fix things? If not, what can I do to fix things?

    Thanx for any help.
    Frank

Uninstall dBpowerAMP and all of the codecs you installed separately, and then reinstall dMc and all of the codecs.

I usually don't have good results with uninstall/re-install (I lose what I have and don't get the desired result back), but it can't be any worse that the situation I am in now - nothing seems to work.

How come I was unaware of the Reply? I thought that I checked the "Immediately Notify" box when registering.

There are no emails sent from this forum for notifications of any kind.

I'm not clear on what you've tried... Have you done the actual uninstall/reinstall?

and that's why I don't get emails either... Shouldn't there be an email notification option?

Hmmm. Thought there was an email reply option. It's not like I registered 5 years ago, but . . . .
I successfully (I think) uninstalled and re-installed dBpowerAMP and several additional codecs. I also registered and paid the $14 to get mp3 capability.

            Now I have these problems:
            1. Everything I convert (.mp3 (lame), wma9.1 - a half dozen settings of cbm & vbm or whatever they are called, and ? - can't remember) all give deafening static from the beginning. At least wma waits for 5 sec. before the static begins.
            2. I tried the Frauenhofer mp3, but it gets about half way through and gives an error message that says it can't do it.

The raw wave file is 2 ch., 32 bit, 44.1k rate and 44Mb. Some of the options don't compress enough. I listen to some of them, but they had the static, too. I'm using Windows XP and the Windows Media Player for auditioning.

To this point I have converted to .wav. So, my first experiences with converting a large .wav file to a much more compressed format (I would like converted files to be less than 3Mb) has not been good.

            Any help would be appreciated.

Aha, the 32-bit sounds like the problem. I don't believe dMC can decode a 32-bit WAV. An easy test is to try to encode to a 2-ch, 16-bit, 44.1KHz WAV and see if it comes out static or not.

                Lt Data -
Yup, the 32 bit was the problem. I created 16 bit wave files and they all converted OK except that the Fraenhofer still said that it could not encode using its encoder file (about half way through the conversion).

Using the 48 bit conversions, I found the WMA9.1 to be more "true" to the original than the MP3(LAME) conversion. Both converted to about 1.7Mb.

Oh, ChristinaS, there is a dialogue box below this Post Reply box entitled "Additional Options". The 2nd item in this dialogue box is entitled "Thread Subscription" and I selected the "Instant email notification" option. What is that all about? Is it just for "grins" and really doesn't work? (which, apparently. it doesn't)

Thanx for the invaluable help, Lt Data!

It's lying :D This forum has never sent notification emails as far back as I can remember. Nor does the pop-up work for PMs. Unrelated problems I think. Email would have been turned off probably because that would cause too much traffic. Pop-ups not working, who knows why - some configuration bug :p

Well I remember that the forum used to send notification of when a post was added to any thread I was subscribed to. I don't remember when this stopped happening. Could have been only in the previous forum rather than the current one. I sort of missed this at first but now I no longer do.

                    Best wishes,
                    Bill

You got 2 years extra on me so that must have been back then.
The only thing I'm missing is the pop-up on a PM actually. Don't know why that shouldn't work - it looks like it almost does, but instead you get a half-hearted pop-up and auto close after you close the PM window.
