This isn't an immediate solution to your problem, but I would highly recommend that you upgrade your operating system. There are some slang abbrievations for "S.E.", but I would prefer not to list them here.

Please tell me why you say that about the need to upgrade my operating system?

I am quite happy with 98 second edition, it's stable and easily to use, and I am really annoyed at microsoft withdrawing their support as there will be no more critical updates post 30th June 2006.

Is that why you mentioned the need to upgrade?

Also how would you recommend the easiest way to upgrade so I could keep all my settings in place.

Do I have to install them in that order? or is it ok to install the DCOM first?

Don't worry about neil. If Win98SE works fine for you, there is no big reason for you to switch. In fact, your computer probably won't run WinXP very well, so I recommend you only upgrade your OS by puchasing a new computer. That is, buy the new computer when you need a new one, not because someone says you need to.

I believe any order is fine.
