Basic Ripping Problems

Over the last few weeks I have been using the 21 day trial to rip my cd's in flac to my synology nas drive without any problems.

In the last few days (when I have continued to rip my cd collection) I have noticed that the ripper is still ripping but when I come to play the tracks only

the first ten seconds play. I have also noticed that the file size for each track is a fraction of a normally ripped track.

As a test I have tried ripping in wave instead of flac but this resulted in the same errors.

To check there was no problem with my cd drive I ripped a cd to i tunes with no problems.

Thinking that the problems were due to the expiry of my 21 day trial I decided to subscribe to dBpoweramp and Perfect Tunes.

To my disappointment this made no difference - the same problems remain.

Hopefully there is a simple solution to my problem.

Can anyone help.

Which version of dBpoweramp and PerfectTunes, Windows or Apple?

Try ripping a CD to a local hard drive. Is the result the same?

Thanks for the reply.

I am using the Apple versions.

To hopefully shed some light on the problem I have done the following :-

1) Using iTunes as the ripping software I have ripped to my MacBook Pro hard drive and to my Synology nas drive.

Result - in both cases the tracks have ripped correctly and play without any problems.

2) As above - this time using dBpoweramp as the ripping software.

Result - problems outlined in my opening post. Tracks play for exactly ten seconds and are not the size of a correctly ripped track.

When ripping with dBpoweramp the ripping status comes up with a green tick complete description within a few seconds followed by an accurate (38) description.

Conclusion :

I think I have proved that there isn't a problem with either my Apple cd drive or Synology nas drive.

There doesn't seem to be a problem with the iTunes ripping software.

The problem seems to point towards the dBpoweramp software.

But why did everything work during my initial trial period - what has changed ?

Can you explain what you define as a local hard drive ?

Does the MacBook Pro not qualify as a local hard drive ?

A local hard drive is a hard drive that is directly connected to your computer (via SATA, USB, FireWire) and not via network (i.e. NAS, SAN, Cloud).

Does the MacBook Pro not qualify as a local hard drive ?

That is not a question of the computer itself but of the Connection between computer and storage.

Look on the DSP effects tab in CD ripper, there should be no effects listed.

I have cleared the DSP effects tab and I think that has solved the problem !

I am bemused that such a change can have such a dramatic affect on ripping.

There is no mention of this in the set up guide.

Which DSPs were you using?

I wasn't aware I was using any DSPs !

I went from the trial version to the registered reference version without changing anything in the DSP tab.

Maybe in my frustration to solve my problems I may have changed a setting by mistake.

DSPs are added and configured manually, by the end user.

So, you didn't add any DSPs and all is working OK now?

I am currently ripping cd's as we speak with no DSPs - everything appears to be working ok.

I have no real interest in adding DSPs.

The only thing I corrected, as Spoon suggested, was to clear DSPs and this magically solved my problems.

You might want to consider using the ReplayGain DSP.

Agree. That's the only one I use when ripping to FLAC.
